Position Description The Head of Nutrition will serve as an integral member of U.S. Soccer’s multidisciplinary High-Performance Department. This position will work in close collaboration with sports science and sports medicine personnel to plan and deliver comprehensive, practical, evidence-based nutrition services for the Youth, Extended and Senior National Teams. As the Head of Nutrition, you will have a wide range of responsibilities, driving the development and coordination of nutritional services for both individuals and teams. Primary Responsibilities Serve as the primary performance nutrition contact for National Team athletes, collaborating with performance and medical staff, team administrators, as well as external club and/or university personnel.
Develop and implement individualized and team-based performance nutrition programs, including education, counseling, and dietary planning for athletes, coaches, and staff.
Oversee body composition assessments, hydration strategies, and recovery nutrition protocols to optimize athlete readiness and performance.
Manage National Team dining initiatives, including menu building, pre- and post-activity fueling, and coordination with food service providers at hotels and training facilities.
Consult with team administrators and performance staff to design sports-specific menus and fueling strategies for training, competition, and travel.
Provide nutrition-related support when appropriate in training, competition, and for major tournaments, including travel as needed.
Research, evaluate, and educate athletes on dietary supplementation, ensuring compliance with U.S. Soccer Federation, CONCACAF, FIFA, WADA, and USADA policies.
Oversee budgeting, inventory, and administration of performance nutrition services, including management of supplies, staffing, and documentation.
Contribute to sports nutrition research, policy development, and anti-doping initiatives while supporting the education of athletes and staff.
Represent U.S. Soccer by attending national and international conferences. Requirements Minimum Qualifications Master’s degree in clinical nutrition, exercise science, or a related field
Registered Dietitian (RD) with active status through the Commission on Dietetic Registration (www.cdrnet.org).
Licensure as required by the State of Georgia
A minimum of five (5) years of experience in intercollegiate athletics or professional sport
Expertise in clinical and sports nutrition, including body composition assessment, energy balance, medical nutrition therapy, and managing disordered eating cases
Knowledge of dietary supplementation, ergogenic aids, complementary medicine, and compliance with USOC, USADA, and WADA regulations
Experience in food service quality and safety procedures, along with collaboration across multiple disciplines, including physicians, athletic trainers, and sport scientists
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Suite Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook)
Ability to perform under pressure and meet deadlines
Ability to lift heavy objects, stand for extended periods, and work in various environmental conditions
Able and willing to travel up to 30% of the year and work non-traditional hours, including evenings and weekends as needed.
General knowledge of soccer
Must be able to connect “micro” details to the “macro” vision and mission Desired Qualifications PhD in sports nutrition, physiology, or related field
Accredited anthropometrist – level 1 (ISAK)
Bilingual (English and Spanish)
