The primary responsibility of thisrole include: Coordinate clinical responsibilities to distributeworkload among team members. Assumes some responsibility for thetraining and development of the professional clinical dieteticsstaff. Coordinates nutritional aspects of patient’s care withphysicians and health care personnel. Utilizes the Nutrition CareProcess to document in the medical record. MNT resourceprofessional for Level I and II dietitians. Conducts qualityimprovement activities as well as performance improvementmonitoring and provides feedback to dietitians and other staff.
Participates in performance evaluation of co-workers. Performsperformance appraisals of dietitians at Level I and II. Preceptsand evaluates interns independently. Helps students to applyknowledge and skills. Mentor to Level I and II dietitians. Developslearning experiences and assignments in area of clinical expertisefor the dietetic interns. Serves on committees in the Food andNutrition Department and on hospital-wide or system-widecommittees. Coordinates appropriate implementation of cultural,religious, ethnic preferences or medical requirements with FNS.Possesses and utilizes accurate knowledge of food safety andsanitation. Makes appropriate use of available education materials.
Participates in development and evaluation of patient educationmaterials. Revises and updates patient education materials.
Resource to FNS staff; may evaluate and make recommendationregarding nutritional products and supplies. Provides care withoutsupervision; support care provided by dietitians at Levels I andII. Demonstrates advanced practice competency. Regularly assumesresponsibility for more complex patients. Assesses, develops,implements and evaluates nutrition care plan for patients using theNutrition Care Process. Able to identify and provide nutritiondiagnosis and intervention for malnutrition. Provides training andguidance for dietetic interns and dietitians in physical assessmentof patients. Provides nutrition counseling to patients andcaregivers based on identified needs. Assures continuity of carethrough effective decision making resulting in quality patientcare. Develops protocol or patient care guidelines for area(s) ofspecialization. Initiates development of Commission on DieteticRegistration (CDR) portfolio to reflect professional and careergoals. Effectively applies or participates in evidence-basedresearch to enhance practice. Participates in medical rounds,discharge planning and patient care conferences as appropriate forthe clinical assignment. Participates in Quality Improvementactivities on clinical units to improve patient satisfactionscores.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
: Bachelor’s degree in Food andNutrition or Dietetics. Registered with the Commission on DieteticRegistration. Maintains a specialty certification from an approvednutrition related area OR has a Master’s degree in Nutrition, orDietetics or related field. Three years of experience as adietitian in a clinical setting. Licensed as a dietitian in theState of Georgia. Must maintain competency in adult and geriatricnutrition. Competent in basic computer skills, including dietmanagement software.
