About the Position A Nutritionist (WIC Certifier) performs certifications for mothers, infants and children for the WIC Program; assesses and teaches individuals and families about healthy eating for normal nutritional states as well as therapeutic nutrition; refers participants to other needed health programs such as immunizations, social services and early intervention; explains the concepts of nutrition, growth and development in relatable ways to participants being served; helps individuals and families set meaningful goals during nutrition education visits, and follows up on these at the following appointment; collaborates with other team members to problem solve solutions for participants, the program , and the community; develops and maintains interactive relationships with other medical professionals such as nurses, NICU personnel, Doctors, and breastfeeding counselors; promotes the Health Department and WIC to reach any and all participants in need of services; speaks for groups and at health fairs; serves as preceptor and mentor for Dietetic internships for State Universities and Distance Learning Programs. A professional-level Nutritionist is accountable for professional work in the provision of nutrition services. Acts with independence in being accountable for the collection and assessment of anthropometric data. Accountable for the creation of individual meal plans and oversight of food preparation. Counsel clients on how to lead healthier lifestyles and prevent or manage health issues related to nutrition. Participates in nutritional health improvement clinics. Participates in the administration of nutrition programs. What you’ll need to be Successful Successful employees need to have excellent multitasking, organizational, and communication skills. Employees must prioritize work to meet deadlines and be an effective team player. Need to have knowledge of MSDH programs and use that knowledge effectively to assist clients and/or patients as needed. Preferred Qualifications Typically requires a Bachelor of Science degree in a relevant discipline and 0-3 years of experience as a Nutritionist.
