PROGRAM DIRECTOR NUTRITIONIST II OR NUTRITIONIST III POSITION SUMMARY
This position is responsible for managing a large multi-faceted nutrition program in a community health center. The WIC Program Director plans nutritional program activities to correspond with services provided and administered by the WIC Program. The position is responsible for program planning and budgeting as well as service delivery functions, clinician contact and coordination, problem solving policy development and modification, and training. The position is administrative with little involvement in direct client services. Work may include other related duties as determined by management.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
The WIC Program Director must have an advanced knowledge and skill in comprehensive nutrition assessment and care planning, including problem diagnosis, counseling, and evaluation of clients from diverse backgrounds and ages. Excellent management and supervisory skills, and the ability to manage diverse staff are required. Demonstrated ability in staff development to include motivation techniques, staff accountability, performance expectations and correction. The ability to plan, develop, direct and evaluate Team Members. The ability to research nutritional information, identify trends, and apply to service delivery as appropriate is required. A general knowledge of community, resources, and socio-economic dynamics to provide outreach activities is required. The position requires excellent interviewing, counseling, and dietary assessment skills. Ability to plan, develop, direct, and evaluate a nutrition program and staff is required. The Program Director is responsible for training and supervising staff, students and interns. The ability to establish rapport with agencies and groups within the community and communicate effectively with diverse populations is required. Needs to be comfortable receiving and carrying out directions from a multi-tiered agency system including Nutrition Services Branch and Food and Nutrition Services. Ability to participate as a contributing member of the organization’s leadership team is required.
EDUCATION
The Nutritionist II will require a Registered Dietitian with the Commission on Dietetics Registration; or Master’s degree in Dietetics, Public Health Nutrition, or Nutrition; or graduation from a Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics Education-approved Didactic Program in Dietetics and two years nutrition experience; or Dietetic Technician, registered with the Commission on Dietetics Registration with a Bachelor’s degree in any subject area from an accredited four-year college or university and two years nutrition experience; or a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Dietetics, Public Health Nutrition or Community Nutrition from an accredited four-year college or university and two years nutrition experience. The Nutritionist III requires Registered Dietitian with the Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics Education with a master’s degree in Dietetics, Public Health Nutrition or Nutrition from an accredited college or university and one year experience; or Registered Dietitian with the Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics Education and two years nutrition experience preferred.
PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE
Three (3) to Five years of program administration and supervisory experience.
