The Nutritionist Supervisor provides leadership and direct supervision to a team of Nutritionists. This position involves planning, organizing, coordinating, implementing, and evaluating WIC program activities. This position is responsible for organizing the workflow and work schedules daily and is expected to orient new staff and provide training, as needed, to all nutritionists. Provides direct client services as staffing dictates and/or directed by Nutrition Program Director. Helps to develop specialized interventions for high-risk participants (i.e. premature infants, obesity prevention, maternal health). This position may temporarily assume the responsibilities of the WIC Nutrition Program Director when the Director is away or absent. Work requires interaction with clients form different cultures that speak different languages, and various professional disciplines. The WIC Program Is Federally Funded on a yearly basis. Distinguishing Features A successful candidate should have the following knowledge, skills and abilities: Considerable knowledge of principals of normal and therapeutic nutrition and health promotion. Considerable knowledge and skill in nutrition and dietary assessment techniques (anthropometric, biochemical, clinical and dietary), and in interpretation of data. Ability to plan and direct an effective program of nutrition and health promotion education. Ability to supervise and evaluate the work of others. Ability to express ideas effectively and to work in cooperation with other agencies and persons in providing services and information. Ability to prepare, justify and administer budgets. Ability to maintain effective working relationships with other employees Minimum Education and Experience Graduation from a four-year college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in Foods and Nutrition, Community Nutrition, or Dietetics and two (2) years of professional nutrition experience, including at least one (1) year of supervisory or program management experience; OR a Master’s degree in Nutrition or Public Health Nutrition and one (1) year of professional nutrition experience, including at least one (1) year of supervisory or program management experience . A higher education level may be considered as a substitution for all or part of the experience requirement. Must have a valid N.C. driver’s license.

Preferred Qualification:

Active Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) credential. Eligibility for registration with the Commission on Dietetic Registration of the American Dietetic Association (ADA) Active Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) credential. Certification as an International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC). Essential Duties and Responsibilities Essential duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to: Plans program goals and objectives, participates in incorporating the nutrition and health promotion programs into other health department program areas; evaluates the effectiveness of the program plans. Prepares and justifies budgetary needs for division; monitors and approves all expenditures and submits reports. Establishes clinic schedules for staff members. Recruits, trains, supervises and evaluates program employees. Establishes and maintains cooperative relations with other agencies involved with the nutrition and health promotion status of the county. Provides consultation and direct services for community agencies. Conducts nutrition classes for lay persons in the community, which requires developing lesson plans, educational materials, and audiovisual aides. Provides comprehensive, complex nutrition counseling and education to patients. Assesses nutritional needs of patients based on medical condition, anthropometric measurements, biochemical and clinical findings and habits. Develops a care plan based on information collected and knowledge of clinical application of nutrition. Performs related work as required.
