POSITION SUMMARY
The Harnett County Department of Public Health has a Nutritionist II position available. The primary purpose of this position is to provide professional nutrition services to participants of the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) Nutrition program. Employee should have considerable knowledge of principles and practices in the field of nutrition and dietary assessment techniques. Major duties include comprehensive and in-depth nutrition assessments and counseling, nutrition education, breastfeeding education, follow-up, and documentation in an electronic medical record. This position will be responsible for direct counseling for WIC program participants. This position will provide certification determination and nutrition education. This position is to function as a member of the community health team through coordination with public health personnel, private physicians, physician extenders, registered nurses, health educators and other health professionals.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Duties and responsibilities include counsels and provides education through individual and class instruction in therapeutic diet principles, food selection and food economics. Performs the medical and nutritional assessment component for WIC certification according to state and federal guidelines. Develops appropriate nutrition care plan for each client in accordance with medical and nutritional status. Plans, implements and evaluates the plan of care for individuals considering their lifestyle, educational level and financial and socioeconomic resources. Records all Nutrition Care Plans, medical data, appropriate referrals and pertinent information in the medical records following appropriate guidelines and procedures. Consults and coordinates with Public Health staff, medical groups, social workers, private physicians and hospitals on problems and solutions for coordination of not only adequate nutritional care but medical care. Monitors and evaluates the progress of the client through follow-up as part of the care plan. Responsible for the development and instruction of nutrition education, patient counseling and assist in planning and carrying out nutrition activities for community education.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

PERSONNEL’s Minimum Education and Experience Requirements. Minimum Education and Experience – Registered Dietitian with the Commission on Dietetics Registration; or Master’s degree in Dietetics, Public Health Nutrition, or Nutrition; or graduation from a Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics Education- approved Didactic Program in Dietetics and two years nutrition experience; or Dietetic Technician, Registered with the Commission on Dietetics Registration with a Bachelor’s degree in any subject area from an accredited four-year college or university and two years nutrition experience; or a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Dietetics, Public Health Nutrition or Community Nutrition from an accredited four-year college or university and two years nutrition experience.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
Bi-lingual in Spanish and English preferred.
