Qualifications Education and Experience:
Current registration as an active status Registered Dietitian (RD) with the Commission of Dietetic Registration and experience equivalent to one year of professional nutrition work is preferred.
Necessary Special Qualifications:
Possession of proof of registration in an active status as a Registered Dietitian (RD) with the Commission of Dietetic Registration is required at time of appointment and must be maintained during employment in the Nutritionist 2 job classification. A valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required. Overview The Nutritionist 2 determines participant eligibility for the WIC program by assessing nutrition risks, conducting nutrition counseling, assigning appropriate food packages. This role supports WIC participants in achieving their health goals by providing education on nutrition, breastfeeding, and behavior change. This class may also provide medical nutrition therapy for qualified individuals. This class differs from that of a Nutritionist 1 in that an incumbent of the latter performs work of more routine difficulty and may be a subordinate to a Nutritionist 2. This class differs from that of a Nutritionist 3 in that an incumbent of the latter is responsible for evaluating nutrition services, assessing community needs at a regional level, and may be assigned to supervise nutrition and breastfeeding personnel. Responsibilities Determines participant eligibility for the WIC (Women, Infants, & Children) program and certified applicants, including analyzing anthropometric and hematological measurements, assessing nutrition risks, providing nutrition counseling, and assigning food packages. Documents all information in participant¿s electronic record according to policies and guidelines. Interprets and explains nutrition data and risk to participants to promote behavior change and comply with program guidelines. Assesses client¿s readiness to change and assists with client centered goals to promote behavior change. Evaluates participant¿s progress on nutrition and breastfeeding goals at regular intervals through the certification period; provides breastfeeding promotion and support as appropriate. Monitor inventory resources related to feeding such as breastfeeding aids, breastfeeding equipment, and therapeutic formulas. Provides general nutrition education to local health department staff, clients, and community organizations; provides referrals and community resources to participants. May be designated as a lead Registered Dietitian (RD) for clinics. Evaluates how well a subordinate or peer performs according to policies and program guidelines; assists in the recruiting and/or interviewing process to fill staff positions. Documents information associated with the patients¿ nutrition care plan, Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT), nutrition counseling, and education into patients¿ medical records according to the policies and guidelines. Consults with healthcare providers to determine nutrition related needs of the patient. Serves as the nutrition expert on multi-agency committees by providing technical nutrition information and advice. Competencies (KSA’s)
