Develops and monitors nourishing, well-balanced diets including modified and specially-prescribed diets to meet the daily nutritional and special dietary needs of each people supported. Relies on knowledge, experience, and judgment with limited direction and supervision. Education, Licensure, and Experience required for the position include: Requires a four-year degree with a minimum of one year experience in a healthcare setting. Must be a Registered Dietician. This position is responsible for developing and monitoring well-balanced diets including modified and specially-prescribed diets to meet the daily nutritional and special dietary needs of each people supported.
Additional Responsibilities include:
Identifies ways to accommodate choices, preferences and customary routines relating to nutrition and diet of the people supported. Plans menus that meet the nutritional needs of people supported in accord with recommended dietary allowances and state and federal regulations. If food intake is inadequate or people supported’s nutritional status is poor, adjusts menus to meet caloric and nutrient intake. Verifies people supported information regarding new admissions and diet order changes. Works closely with nursing staff and doctors in relation to diet orders, supplements (occasionally vitamins or meds) and lab work. Records progress notes in the clinical record including people supported’s responses to dietary interventions Conducts regular mealtime assessments, reviews records, interviews staff and people supported to ensure that all people supported are receiving food in the amount, type, consistency and frequency to maintain usual weight and nutritional values. Completes and updates dietary assessments as part of the people supported assessment process. Participates in the development and update of dietary services policies and procedures that reflect the philosophy and mission of the facility and accepted professional standards of nutrition and sanitation.
Required Education/Experience:
Baccalaureate degree in field from an accredited university/ college Prefer previous experience, including a minimum of one year professional food service experience in a health care setting which includes identification of dietary needs, planning and implementation of dietary programs.
