Overview The Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) is responsible for leading and providing strategic direction to all Nursing services throughout the organization. The CNO provides leadership and insures the development, implementation and evaluation of Nursing policies/standards, practices, programs and services consistent with the organization’s mission, vision, goals and objectives.

Qualifications Required Education:

Master’s degree. Master of Science Degree in Nursing from an accredited school of nursing. Required 

Licensure/Certifications:
  • Licensed to practice nursing in the state of Florida
  • Existing employees are required to have a professional certification by June 30, 2015 or within two (2) years of transfer in the position if the transfer date is after August 1, 2013.
  • Effective January 1, 2015, all new hires or transfers must have a professional certification within two years of hire or transfer.
  • For certifications that require a specified number of cases or hours worked within the specialty, the certification must be applied for once the case/time requirement has been met, and the certification must be obtained within one year of the requirement having been met (e.

g. oncology, chemotherapy, diabetes education).

Required Experience:

Ten plus (10+) years progressive, professional executive level Nursing operations experience.

Supervision:

Supervisory responsibility of 2,804 employees.

Budgetary Responsibility:

Responsible for budgeted revenue $5,300,000

Preferred Experience:

10+ years progressive, professional executive level nursing operations experience in an academic medical center.

Preferred Education:

Doctoral degree preferred.

Necessary Skills:

1. Knowledge of Regulatory Agency Standards (e.g., TJC, HRS), Nursing Standards and Florida Nurse Practice Act. 2. Seasoned, professional, verbal and written skills for communication with all levels of hospital staff and other outside agencies. 3. Proven track record of making decisions under pressure with multiple conflicting priorities. 4. Proven success managing large budgets and making sound business financial decisions.
