Director of Nursing Little Giant Pediatrics Tampa, FL 33634 Job Overview We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Director of Nursing to lead our nursing team in providing exceptional patient care. The Director of Nursing (DON) assists the PPEC Administrator in maintaining the clinical integrity of the PPEC facility by managing, overseeing, training, and organizing the efforts of all nursing and direct care staff. The DON oversees and implements the nursing standards of care in accordance to state, local, and federal requirements. Responsibilities Participates in developing policies and procedures which ensure safe and therapeutically effective service to patients and families. Has joint responsibility with the Administrator for ensuring that set standards are met. Participates in developing and implementing overarching care goals and objectives for the PPEC facility. Consults with the Administrator to determine a suitable staffing pattern which will accomplish stated objectives, promote efficient and maximal utilization of healthcare personnel, and meet state regulations. Recruits, interviews, hires, evaluates, and terminates service personnel as needed. Participates in planning for the onboarding, orientation, and training of new employees. Conducts select onboarding, orientation, and training classes/meetings. Plans and arranges for the consultation needs of staff members. Participates in the revision and continual stewardship of policies and procedures which meet Medicaid, state, etc. regulations and implements such revisions. Displays a willingness to operate in accordance with policies and procedures and uses appropriate channels for change of such policies. Establishes criteria and procedures for the selection, promotion, and termination of employment of service personnel. Participates in establishing and revising the functions and qualifications for each service position. Coordinates interdisciplinary team services. Ensures ongoing assessment and response to patient/family needs as well as the implementation of interdisciplinary team plan of care. Ensures physician approval of plans of care, creating proper continuity care. Provides individual or group support concerning job related stress or issues. Organizes the Center to delineate and delegate authority, functional responsibility, and lines of communication to provide safe and therapeutically effective service. Participates in coordinating the PPEC facility’s services with services of other community agencies. Participates in studies, research, and other administrative functions as needed. Serves as a role model for all colleagues by setting an example of high standards in dress, conduct, cooperation, and job performance. Exercises discretion and maintains confidentiality, safeguarding all patient medical information. Dedicates the appropriate amount of time and effort to fulfill job requirements and further the objectives of the greater facility. Serves as a resource person to employees. Develops a cooperative relationship and communicates effectively and professionally with physicians. Investigates and reports issues relating to patient care conditions which might harm the patient and/or affect employee well-being. Immediately reports any accident, incident, lost articles, or unusual occurrence to the PPEC Administrator. Attends pertinent continuing education programs and routine in-service trainings and shares information with staff. Works with the PPEC Administrator in identifying budgetary requirements and determining appropriate allocation of funds. Monitors staff use of equipment and takes steps to keep misuse to a minimum. Oversees the facility’s ongoing performance improvement (PI) program. Oversees the development of performance improvement activities and reporting results according to the PI plan. Conducts patient care conferences, in-service trainings, staff meetings, and maintains appropriate documentation. Participates in community education projects. Ensures that patient plans of care are accurately constructed, implemented, and revised as needed. Ensures that all necessary supplies and equipment are available within the PPEC facility. Must make necessary efforts to manage and maintain adequate staffing ratios during emergency situations. Must be available at all times during operating hours. May designate a qualified temporary replacement if he/she will not be available. Ensures compliance with federal, state, local, and facility policies in all aspects of patient care. Addresses and corrects all patient/family concerns. Qualifications Current RN License, issued by the State of Florida. Have a minimum of 2 years of general pediatric nursing experience of which at least 6 months must have been spent caring for medically fragile infants or children in a PICU, NICU, PPEC, or similar care setting during the previous 5 years. Current PALS certification. Current CPR certification. Current First Aid certification. Demonstrates knowledge of neonatal critical care, including familiarity and competence in manipulating ventilators, tracheostomies, and feeding tubes. Demonstrates competence in monitoring and manipulating IV infusion therapies and central line infusions and maintenance. Eligible Background Screening Result from the Agency of Healthcare Administration (AHCA).
