Full Job Description TITLE:
Director of Nursing
REPORTS TO
Administrator Non-Exempt
PURPOSE OF POSITION
The primary purpose of the position is to plan, organize, develop and direct the overall operation of the Nursing Service Department in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations that govern the facility, and as may be directed by the Administrator and the Medical Director, to ensure that the highest degree of quality care is maintained at all times. RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Plan for the provision of nursing care to long-term care residents within the operating budget. 2. Lead the nursing department to take effective actions and achieve optimum teamwork through positive communication, always being available to staff members and being receptive to new ideas. 3. Listen to resident and family member concerns and address issues in a reasonable and timely fashion. 4. Analyze and make decisions to resolve problems that arise in a timely manner. 5. Interview and hire appropriate nursing staff. 6. Participate in the development of the Nursing Department budgets. 7. Orient new Nursing Department employees to the department, its policies and procedures, to the job position and duties.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS
1. Must possess a current, unencumbered, active license to practice as a Registered Nurse in this state. 2. Must be knowledgeable of nursing and medical practices and procedures, as well as law, regulations, and guidelines that pertain to long-term care.
