M JobDescription Purpose of Position :

Under direction of the Director,Department of Nursing, or designee, participates in planning,organizing, directing, coordinating and evaluating the nursingservice and nursing education program of a hospital, hospitalcenter or diagnostic and treatment center. Performs related work.

Examples of Typical Tasks:

1. Performs all duties of the Directorof Nursing in his or her absence. 2. Participates in developingphilosophy, objectives, policies and standards of nursing serviceand education. 3. Assumes responsibility for developing andimplementing a staffing plan and directing recruitment andselection of personnel. 4. Develops, plans, coordinates, directsand evaluates assigned projects and programs. MinimumQualifications 1. Licensed and currently registered to practice asa professional nurse in New York State, plus (2) or (3), below. 2.Masters Degree in Nursing Administration, Education, ClinicalSpecialty or equivalent field and five years of satisfactorynursing experience, of which three years shall have been in asupervisory or teaching capacity; or a Baccalaureate Degree inNursing and six years of satisfactory nursing experience, fouryears of which shall have been in a supervisory or teachingcapacity. 3. A satisfactory equivalent of education and experience.
