Occupational Therapy Supervisor State of North Carolina – Dept of Health and Human Services Wayne County, NC Description of Work This position is designated Mandatory and must report or stay over during adverse weather events. Cherry Hospital A Place of Hope, Care, and Recovery Cherry Hospital’s Hope & Wellness Center (HWC) uses the “treatment mall” model of service delivery. The treatment mall is a centralized programming area away from each patient’s hospital residential unit where recovery-oriented treatment and rehabilitative services are made accessible to all of the facility’s adult patient population (geriatric, adult acute, independence transition) in an integrated program design. Ultimately, the vast majority of adult patients from throughout the hospital receive services at the Hope & Wellness Center. HWC programming offerings include, but are not limited to, psychotherapy and educational groups, skill building groups, individual counseling services, peer support services, work therapy, and special activities. All patients and staff re-locate to this centralized programming area as do all patient services such as meals, snacks, medication administration, nursing care, medical treatments, charting, and treatment team meetings. This position is responsible for overseeing Occupational Therapy Services for all patients at the hospital including the admission, independence transition, geriatric and adolescent units, including a significant portion of services in the Hope & Wellness Center program. This position designs and implements Occupational Therapy programs and interventions. This position is responsible for the administrative supervision of all Occupational Therapy staff including Occupational Therapists and Occupational Therapy Assistants and for coordination of clinical supervision for the assistants. This position is responsible for the development and oversight of the following services provided by the occupational therapy department: group facilitation in the Hope & Wellness Center treatment mall program, referral based assessments and consultations, distribution and management of assistive technology and adaptive devices, policy and process development, specialized interventions such a life skills program, sensory-based modalities and customized adaptive equipment, and the Patient Work Program. This position provides a minimal amount of direct clinical services to patients in the hospital, with the majority of responsibilities focused on supervising and managing the Occupational Therapy (OT) department. This includes providing oversight, operational support, staff supervision, and ensuring the overall effectiveness and quality of departmental services. Ability to plan, organize, and initiate programs and to supervise and train staff employees and other supportive personnel. Ability to effectively manage intra and inter departmental functioning and to coordinate department activities. Physical Requirements (if applicable) Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to more objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for Sedentary Work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for Light Work. Licensed to practice as an Occupational Therapist in the State of North Carolina and three years of experience as an occupational therapist. Degrees must be from appropriately accredited colleges or universities.
