Full Job Description Job Overview Duties and Responsibilities:
Immediate Care:
Provide efficient and immediate care to ill and injured patients using a limited amount of equipment.
Emergency Response:
Respond to emergency calls, ensuring safe and expeditious travel to the scene.
Scene Management:
Assess the scene for safety, identify the mechanism of injury or nature of illness, and determine the number of patients.
Basic Life Support:
Perform basic life support procedures, including opening and maintaining airways, ventilating patients, and administering CPR.
Trauma Care:
Provide emergency medical care for trauma, such as controlling hemorrhage, bandaging wounds, and stabilizing injured extremities.
Medical Emergencies:
Manage general medical complaints, altered mental status, seizures, environmental emergencies, behavioral emergencies, and psychological crises.
Patient Reassurance:
Reassure patients and bystanders, working confidently and efficiently.
Extrication Assistance:
Assist in the extrication of patients from entrapment, assessing the extent of injury and providing necessary care.
Skills and Qualifications:
Calm Under Pressure:
Ability to function in uncommon situations while remaining calm.
Stress Management:
Basic understanding of stress response and methods to ensure personal well-being.
Medical Knowledge:
Understanding of body substance isolation and basic medical-legal principles.
Regulatory Compliance:
Function within the scope of care as defined by state, regional, and local regulatory agencies.
Communication:
Effective communication skills to interact with patients, bystanders, and other emergency personnel.
Additional Responsibilities:
Traffic Management:
Create a safe traffic environment at the scene, such as placing road flares and removing debris.
Patient Transport:
Ensure the safe transportation of patients to healthcare facilities for further treatment.
