JOB SUMMARY

The EMT is a specially trained bedside caregiver who assists the professional nursing staff in performing routine care, performs specialized technical skills, reports any unusual incident or findings, and maintains patient safety at all times to a group of patients for a designated time period. Care given by an EMT is in accordance with standards and procedures of the hospital.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND TRAINING QUALIFICATIONS

High School graduate or equivalent required Current EMT Basic One (1) year experience as an EMT basic on an ambulance crew preferred. Must have a valid and current state issued Class D driver’s license. Must maintain and provide proof of automobile insurance (at his/her own expense) in amounts which meet at least the minimum liability coverage limits required by the state of their residence. Clearance of driving record check; Driving records shall not contain any of the following: a suspended or revoked driver’s license, 3 or more moving violations in the past 36 months, 2 or more accidents in the past 36 months, 1 or more instances of driving under the influence (DUI) or driving while intoxicated (DWI) within the past 24 months, at fault in a fatal accident within the past 5 years, leaving the scene of an accident within the past 36 months, and/or reckless driving within the past 12 months. Current BLS certification through any International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation (ILCOR) provided courses such as but not limited to: Ochsner Health System, American Heart Association, and American Red Cross. The ILCOR course must include a manikin check off. CPI certification required within 6 months of hire. Must be 28 years or older Must have ability to drive van, operate electric patient stretcher, and assist in loading and unloading patients from the transport van. Basic computer skills, effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present information clearly and professionally. Capable of continuous monitoring of patients at the central station and able to remain alert at all times while on duty Ability to communicate with hospital staff and respond quickly to changes in cardiac rhythm and/or oxygen saturation.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Must possess good physical health. Some requirements include but are not limited to standing, sitting or walking for long periods of time. Lifting at least 100 pounds is required, with the exception of lifting overhead. Must be able to work with a moderate level of noise.
