Distinguishing Features of the Class
The work involves responsibility for the academic integrity of the Emergency Medical Technician and or Certified First Responder course. The incumbent must be knowledgeable in many aspects of Pre-hospital emergency medical care and certified at the level (or higher) of the course being conducted. The incumbent needs to be clinically competent and field active to maintain credibility with the students. The incumbent must be present during all the course sessions to ensure the program continuity and that course objectives are met. The incumbent is an employee of the course sponsor (Erie County Health Department, EMS Division) and accountable to the Deputy Commissioner of EMS who is the Sponsor Administrator for all Erie County EMS training courses. Does related work as required.
Typical Work Activities
Assists the Administrative Aide-EMS in planning, coordinating, and preparing course outlines, schedules and selection of faculty for the Emergency Medical Training Courses;
Conducts the course in compliance with NYS published curriculum, policies and procedures as they appear in the NYS EMS Administrative Manual and its updates;
Administers all skills examinations; Prepares didactic lesson plans and written exams following NYSDOH requirements;
Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and five (5) years of pre-hospital emergency medical care experience.
Special Requirements
NYS EMT certification; and Membership with an EMS agency providing emergency medical care; and NYS Certified Instructor Coordinator certification.

Remote Work Eligibility
This position is not eligible for remote work under any circumstances. The duties of this role require full-time, on-site presence.
