Summary:
The Psychiatric Emergency Clinician provides assessment, evaluation, and treatment planning for assigned patients in an Emergency Room setting.
Responsibilities:
- Performs psychiatric assessments of patients presenting to the hospital emergency department.
- Interviews patients to collect dispositional information per documented standards as directed by the emergency room physician and the on-call psychiatrist.
- Assists with the development of disposition plans as directed by Emergency Room care providers.
- Initiates the Involuntary Commitment process as part of documented dispositional plan or as directed by care provider staff. Coordinates contact with the magistrate’s office as determined by available documentation.
- Assesses and documents bio-psychosocial needs and prepares a formal intervention plan to suit under routine review and clinical supervision.
- Delivers information to patients and their families in relation to acute social, psychological, financial, and family situations. Explains and guides patients and families through the Involuntary Commitment process as necessary.
- Refers patients and families to appropriate community assistance resources.
- Obtains, interprets and documents necessary information regarding patients and families, including bio-psychosocial history factors, and communicates to interdisciplinary care team under routine review and clinical supervision.
Other information:
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in a human services field or similar.
- Excellent verbal and written communication. Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification Preferred
- Master’s degree in a human services field or similar
- Experience performing substance abuse counseling
- Experience performing in a leadership capacity.
