Overview Copley Hospital, located in Morrisville/Stowe VT, is looking for anEMT to join our Emergency Department! The Emergency Department Technician will work under the supervisionof a nurse or provider to deliver patient care to emergency roompatients. This includes preparing patients for examinations, takingvital signs, obtaining specimens, setting-up rooms with necessarysupplies and equipment and assisting physicians and nurses duringtreatments. The ED Tech functions as an integral member of amultidisciplinary team and should be fully versed in all areas ofeither emergency department or transport team operations. The EDTech must have the ability to manage multiple responsibilities aswell as exhibit willingness and the ability to communicatedepartment standards and expectations. Compliance with allapplicable State and Federal laws, regulations, and policiesgoverning the provision of health care. Expected primary shift will be from 10:00am to 10:00pm. Variableshifts may include 7:00am-7:00pm and 7:00pm-7:00am as well. This is a Per Diem position (FT available). Copley Hospital has a variety of shifts available across Full-Time,Part-Time, and Temporary needs. Please consider applying to discusshow your availability may align. Responsibilities
- EMT-Advanced or Paramedic will be able to safely and preciselyaccess the venous circulation and after didactic and practicalmodules taught by the laboratory, will draw appropriate laboratorystudies per protocol.
- Applies temporary splints in accordance to provided training.
- Provides patients with Crutch use instructions.
- Obtains EKGs, Vital Signs, Visual Acuity, applies simpledressings and assists with ambulation / care of patient under thedelegation of the Primary RN
- Emergency Department Technicians who have a valid VermontEmergency Medical Services license, may work up to the scope ofpractice equal to that EMS licensure while under the supervision ofa provider or the delegation of a Registered Nurse
- Advanced EMT/Paramedic, after successful completion of atelemetry course including didactic and practical modules, willsafely transport stable patients requiring telemetry throughout thehospital and remain with patients during diagnostic testing, perprotocol.
- Transports or escorts patients to examination area, treatmentrooms, nursing units, the morgue, etc.
- Assess patient changes in condition and reports to nurse
- Sets up trays / assists with procedures within scope ofpractice.
- Demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide careappropriate to the age of the patients served within the unit.
- Familiar with simple medical laws and ethics, i.e. consents,confidentiality, etc.
- Knowledge of all policies and procedures regarding admitting,transferring and discharge of patients.
- Maintain work area and ED Waiting Room in an appropriatemanner.
- Maintains departmental policy and procedure manuals and unitfiles.
- Maintains sufficient supplies needed for smooth operation of theunit. Avoids waste, utilizes time and supplies efficiently.
- Answers phone and refer calls to appropriate staff.
- Complete required continuous training and education includingdepartment specific requirements.
- Order and maintain supplies for ED
- Orients new employees to the unit.
- Performance reflects current knowledge of emergency procedures,medical terminology.
- Shows flexibility in hours to reflect census
Qualifications Education Required:
High School diploma or equivalent
Experience Desired:
Six Months of EMT Experience License and Certification Requirements:
National Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)
Certification CPR Certification License and Certification Desired:
Advanced EMT or Paramedic Skill Requirements:
