Summary Position Highlights:
The Endoscopy Associate assists the physician and RN in the performance of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, prepares and maintains the endoscopy equipment, transports the patient, assists in patient care delivery under the direct supervision of the Registered Nurse. The GI Associate acts as a first assistant to the physicians, handles instruments, supplies, and equipment necessary during the procedure, anticipates the needs of the physician and team, and has the necessary knowledge and ability to ensure quality patient care. In addition, the GI Associate functions as a resource for difficult procedures, troubleshoots equipment problems, maintains supply inventories, is a role model for service management, participates in quality improvement activities on the unit, complies with regulatory agency requirements, and responds to emergency situations as directed by the RN. This role includes assignments in other ancillary/technical roles within Perioperative Services as needed.
Responsibilities:
The GI Associate is responsible for assisting with support services in the delivery of care to Endoscopy patients, including transportation, independent inventory management, patient prep, environmental cleanliness and direct assistance to Endoscopy RN’s, physicians, patients, visitors and staff.
This role includes assignments in other ancillary/technical roles within Perioperative Services as needed.
Credentials and Qualifications Required:
High School Diploma/GED
Knowledge of basic Endoscopy procedures and GI anatomy.
BLS Certification Preferred:
Healthcare experience preferred.
Experience with operation and handling of basic endoscopes and equipment preferred.
Advanced Endoscopy skills preferred.
