Job Summary :
Under minimal supervision, works closely with patient care team (MD, NP, RD, RN, and Psychologist) to develop a multi-disciplinary treatment plan for the obese and overweight. Works independently to develop exercise prescriptions for a variety of clinical populations based on clinical judgment and other components of the treatment plan (medication, diet, comorbid conditions).

What You Will Need:
Master’s degree in health Exercise Science or area related to physical fitness/exercise training or bachelor’s degree in health Exercise Science or area related to physical fitness/exercise training with two years relevant clinical experience. CPR certification required. Nice to Have (Not Required): Certified Exercise Specialist by the American College of Sports Medicine required within three months of hire. Proven experience in delivering physical activity programs to populations with varying levels of capabilities and multiple comorbid conditions.
How You’ll Impact Patient Care:
Your responsibilities may include, but are not limited to: Conducts metabolic, anthropometric, and exercise assessments and makes appropriate exercise prescriptions based on patient health status and risk factors. Educates patients about testing, exercise program components, and the role of physical activity in managing their weight and other health conditions. Coordinates and administers personal training for patients seeking one on one exercise training in order to enhance cardiovascular function, muscle strength and endurance, balance, and flexibility. Provides guidance in proper exercise technique and variations of exercises with respect to patient capabilities. Oversees the fitness center in the Weight Management Center to ensure patient safety is optimized. Ensures that equipment is adequately serviced and orders for new equipment are completed by notifying clinic coordinator of requests. Develops new methods to increase patient participation in structured exercise and physical activity to optimize patient adherence to exercise to improve the maintenance of weight loss outcomes. Selects, supervises and trains undergraduate interns in the administration of metabolic, anthropometric, and fitness assessments. Plans, develops, promotes, and evaluates exercise programming to enhance clinical weight loss. Delivers training and education to fitness center staff regarding new techniques, measurements and programs. Collaborates with community fitness centers and fitness businesses to increase the involvement of the fitness community in the clinical weight loss programming. Oversees exercise related programming. Develops forms and other documents required for program monitoring and implementation Maintains a working knowledge of the implementation of exercise in weight loss programs and of relevant research being utilized by the multidisciplinary weight loss team through continuing education conferences, webinars, and journals. Collaborates with investigators in developing and implementing projects aimed to further the mission of the Center.
