JOBSUMMARY
Working under the supervision of the Director of EarlyChildhood Services, with support and additional learningopportunities provided by the Child First Learning Collaborativeand CGC’s multi-disciplinary team of professionals, theDevelopmental Psychotherapist will work in a team with a CareCoordinator to provide intensive in-home therapy to families withchildren under 6. Each Child First team works with families toimprove parent-child relationships and offers care coordination toconnect families to needed community services.
ROLE ANDRESPONSIBILITIES
- Conduct comprehensive, strength
- and need-basedchild and family assessments, diagnoses and clinical formulations
- Develop detailed care plans, responsive to the priorities of thefamily needs and strengths identified in the assessment
- Engagefamilies in individualized psychotherapeutic and psycho-educationalparent and child interventions
- Conduct mental health consultationin early care and/or educational settings
- Participate inreflective supervision provided by the Program Director
- Utilizethe agency’s electronic health record (EHR) system to ensure properand timely completion of clinical documentation, programstatistics, and outcome data, in compliance with all applicableagency, program, and government requirements and best practicestandards
- Actively participate in all activities of the ChildFirst Learning Collaborative and CGC’s exciting array of in-servicetraining and staff development activities
- Other relatedactivities as needed
QUALIFICATIONS
Required Skills and Education
- Ph.
D., Psy.
D., M.S.W., Masters in Counseling, MFT, or other licensetrack mental health profession required
- Licensed in a mentalhealth profession in Connecticut, or eligible to immediately becomelicensed required
- Minimum 3 years experience providing mentalhealth diagnostic and treatment services to children (birth to 5years) and high risk families, with specific experience providingdyadic parent
- child treatment, play therapy and in-homeinterventions
- Familiarity with reliable research findings andpromising practices in early childhood development; developmental,emotional and behavioral disorders; affects of trauma andenvironmental stressors on brain development; attachment theory;and other topics relevant to work with the Child First population
- Ability to demonstrate a belief in resilience and the power ofemotionally corrective relationships and to empathize with parentsand assist them with the challenges of parenting
- Knowledge andexperience working with adults with serious mental health,substance abuse, and cognitive challenges required
- Experienceproviding mental health consultation in early childhood care andeducational settings
- Ability to demonstrate an understanding ofnormal child development and grounding in at least one relevantorientation to treatment (e.g. psychodynamic, trauma informed,family systems, etc.)
- Experience working with patients fromculturally diverse backgrounds, and the ability to demonstratecultural competence and sensitivity required
- Verbal and writtenEnglish fluency required; candidates with fluency in Spanish,Haitian Creole, or another language widely spoken in our community,a strong asset
- Computer skills required; familiarity with EHRsystems a plus
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Hours willvary; our schedules range Monday-Friday from 7am-7pm and Saturdays
- Minimal physical effort.
Must be able to operate computer andtelephone continuously. Regular regional travel as necessary.
