Description

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

In this position, you will work with individuals facing emotional, behavioral, and psychological challenges associated with substance use and mental health disorders.
Help clients build coping skills, life skills, emotional strength, and a deeper sense of connection to themselves and the natural world through immersive, outdoor experiential activities.
Lead and facilitate on-site experiential and expressive therapy.
Lead and facilitate off-site adventure therapy sessions focused on promoting healing and personal growth.
Develop individualized therapeutic plans that integrate nature-based interventions.
Foster a safe and supportive environment for clients to explore emotional and psychological challenges.
Collaborate with other clinical staff to ensure a comprehensive treatment approach for each client.
Provide ongoing assessment and documentation of clients’ progress in therapy.
Facilitation of outdoor activities and team-building exercises such as hiking, surfing, climbing, fishing, canoeing, etc.
Ensure the safety and well-being of all participants during outdoor activities.
Provide crisis intervention and conflict resolution as needed.
Document and maintain accurate records of client interactions and progress. This job description reflects management’s assignment of essential functions; it does not prescribe or restrict duties or tasks that may be required or assigned.

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS

Experience in adventure therapy or outdoor-based therapeutic practices.
Bachelor’s degree in psychology, counseling, or a related field required, master’s degree and/or licensure preferred.
Certified Adventure Therapist (CAT) credential and/or Wilderness and Adventure Therapy (WAT) credential preferred.
Certification in First Aid and CPR required.
Passion for working in a nature-based healing environment.
If in recovery, one to two 2 years of uninterrupted sobriety preferred.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Understanding of substance use and mental health disorders and their treatment.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Strong knowledge of outdoor survival skills.
Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate groups.
Physical ability to participate in and lead outdoor activities.
Valid driver’s license and ability to drive to remote locations.
Ability to pass a background check and drug screening.
Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
Ability to maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality.
