Position Summary Orlando Health Cancer Institute is seeking a full-time genetic counseling assistant to work alongside genetic counselors and providers in the Cancer Genetics and High-Risk Center. This clinic sees patients with personal or family history of cancer for hereditary cancer risk assessment and genetic testing. The genetic counseling assistant (GCA) is responsible for supporting the genetic counselors and other clinicians with administrative functions as well as taking on a patient facing role by answering phone calls, discussing test results, fielding questions, and collecting information related to health and family history. Responsibilities:
Essential Functions Triage phone calls from patients and other health care providers for the clinical team Review incoming genetic test reports and upload them to the medical record Work with laboratories to troubleshoot genetic testing orders and patient sample collection Discuss test results with patients and families and answer questions about genetic testing as appropriate Assist with placing genetic testing orders for patients and coordinating follow-up genetic testing for family members Collect medical and family history from patients when needed Provide patients and families updates about insurance authorizations, decisions, and status of testing Request, review, and send medical records Compose and prepare correspondence to be sent to patients and healthcare providers Maintain reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA and other federal,state and local standards. Maintain compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures. Other Related Functions Review medical literature about genetic indications and conditions Support the genetic counselors and clinicians in their daily roles by performing other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Education/Training High School Diploma. Must have completed a college-level Biology course or an equivalent combination of education or Medical Assistant/Nursing licensure. Licensure/Certification None. (Medical Assistant/Nursing licensure, if applicable) Experience None.
