Teaching Full Job Description Overview:
Plans, develops, mentors and implements in-patient diabetes management and self-management education (DSME) for patients, families and nursing staff. Develops, revises and implements diabetes education curricula and CE offerings according to identified learning needs. Facilitates competency programs that are consistent with a team approach to diabetes management and education. Collaborates with community resources, medical and nursing staff on patients referred for DSME. Participates in the Diabetes Steering Committee, policy and procedures, patient education, nurse councils, quality and performance improvement and other related activities as may be determined and may apply to diabetes management and education. Provides feedback and solutions to opportunities for enhancing staff performance, clinical competence and professional development. Facilitates an environment that values and enhances learning, knowledge acquisition and professional development.

Required Education:
Associate’s degree.
Specific course work:
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. New hires effective June 14, 2017, must have a BSN degree from an accredited school of nursing within three (3) years of hire or transfer into the position. New hires or transfers into in the position between August 1, 2013 and June 13, 2017 must abide with the conditions in his or her offer letter and the verbiage in the job description signed upon hire or transfer into the position. Current employees who were hired or transferred into the position prior to August 1, 2013 will be grandfathered.
Necessary Skills:
1. Ability to produce effective program development, assessment lesson plans and learning plans. 2. Proven organizational, proactive and independent work methods. 3. Seasoned verbal, written and influence-based communication skills. 4. Proven knowledge and experience integrating and implementing adult teaching principles. 5. Effective computer skills.
Required Licensure/Certifications:
Licensed to practice nursing in the state of Florida BLS from the American Heart Association CDE within 4 years of hire or transfer into the position
