JOB SUMMARY
Under general supervision provides HIV prevention outreach services in coordination with community partners. The HIV Specialist serves as the HIV resource person from Claratel Behavioral Health offering individuals HIV prevention education, risk reduction counseling, and HIV counseling and testing. Primarily provides services at intra-agency outpatient clinics and community partner sites including substance use recovery support community programs. Participates in marketing the services to the community. Attend health fairs and other community-based activities to provide community education and testing for high risk and at-risk populations.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Provides community focused HIV prevention and education outreach services Provides HIV/STD education for community partners and other community groups using approved HIV curriculum Provides HIV testing and pre/post-test counseling Provides community outreach activities (health fairs, etc.) to include testing and education for high risk and at-risk populations Provides confidential HIV testing and pre/post-test counseling in the community and at Claratel Behavioral Health. Provides pre/post-test counseling Demonstrates knowledge of CDC recommended evidence-based counseling techniques and session content Demonstrates high-quality testing procedures including specimen collection, labeling, storage, and transport Ensures that 100% of HIV positive clients are referred to the county public health department or community AIDS service organization, as appropriate Documents counseling and testing activities according to agency guidelines Maintains ethical standards Delivery of case management/coordination for HIV positive individuals Demonstrates awareness of metro area HIV community resources Coordinates care in a timely manner Provides educational and skills training groups to clients at DeKalb Addiction Clinic and/or DeKalb Regional Crisis Center Provides education and skills training sessions using evidence-based interventions Documents groups according to agency guidelines and within 24 hours of providing service Demonstrate clinical knowledge of substance use disorders and mental health evidence-based interventions, particularly motivation enhancing interventions Coordinates and processes group with co-leader and/or supervisor Uses evidence-based curriculum Training and Reporting Completes state reporting forms and reports in a timely manner Completes the required Rapid HIV Testing and Prevention Counseling Training Follows guidelines set forth in the Rapid HIV Testing Policy, Procedures, and Quality Assurance Plan Participates in technical assistance activities, including the annual HIV EIS training events.
SKILL, COMPETENCY AND EDUCATION AND/OR LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS
Required qualifications: Must have expertise working with HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases. A bachelor’s degree with two years’ work experience in social service delivery. Must be computer proficient.
Preferred qualifications:
Experience working in a substance-use treatment program. CPS-AD or CARES certification. Certified Addiction Specialist.
INTER-RELATIONSHIPS
Must have the ability to work with an interdisciplinary team and clients. Able to maintain ongoing working relationships with community partners.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Primarily in community settings. Also provides services in outpatient clinics and DeKalb Regional Crisis Center. Monday -Friday 8:15am – 5:00pm with some evening hours and weekend hours (community events). Ability to use a computer, telephone, fax, copier and scanning machine. Will be trained to complete HIV testing.
