Job Summary :

WHEDco seeks a part-time Wellness Coordinator to join its Family Support and Housing Services team, which links our buildings’ residents, WHEDco program participants, and other community residents to resources that support individual and household well-being and stability, including benefits counseling, mental health counseling, social work partnership with local schools, a weekly food pantry and access to other vital resources. The Wellness Coordinator will be based at Bronx Commons, one of WHEDco’s three mixed-use affordable housing developments in the South Bronx. The Wellness Coordinator will engage the residents in fitness and wellness activities at our on-site fitness center and the rooftop garden and will work collaboratively with WHEDco’s community-facing programs to integrate wellness into arts and culture, family engagement and small business engagement in the surrounding neighborhood.

Responsibilities :

With the Vice President of Family Support and Housing Services and other senior staff, design and implement Wellness Programming at Bronx Commons. Coordinate the day-to-day outreach to and engagement of residents in the Bronx Commons fitness/wellness center and in the use of equipment and facilities. Coordinate and facilitate fitness classes and wellness activities for the residents at Bronx Commons. Support wellness activities within other WHEDco programs as needed. Keep abreast of current wellness initiatives, develop a network of resources and contacts to enhance programming. Maintain or arrange maintenance of the Bronx Commons fitness facility, including equipment. Maintain accurate and timely client records in WHEDco’s DataSPACE on Planstreet. Participate in meetings (e.g., team meetings, case conferences, interdisciplinary meetings and scheduled supervisory meetings). Participate in in-house and external staff development and training activities. Perform other related duties as may be requested by the VP/Director.

Qualifications :

Available to work part-time Monday through Thursday, 4pm to 8pm with flexibility for pre-arranged programing activities. Bilingual in English and Spanish strongly preferred. A Bachelor of Science degree in health promotion or a related field preferred. 1-2 years’ experience in the wellness industry. Fitness/Personal training certificate. Knowledge of broad range of wellness and fitness topics; versed in fitness, nutrition and general wellness programming. Be a self-starter with strong organizational and communication skills and good judgement. Comfortable collaborating with and encouraging participation by diverse and multi-generational individuals, families and community members in wellness programs (health and nutrition workshops, fitness classes, etc.). Ability to integrate new wellness/fitness program initiatives into existing programs and services. Ability to work cooperatively and respectfully with people at all levels of the organization. Be a forward thinker who is personable, energetic, motivated, creative, organized and compassionate, with an appreciation of professional boundaries. Have or willing to obtain CPR and First Aid Certification. Must have the ability to lift or move up to 50 pounds occasionally. Ability to move easily and effectively between working independently and working collaboratively with a team of co-professional. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and basic computer skills required.
