Certified Recovery Peer Advocate (CRPA)

Job Summary:

The Certified Recovery Peer Advocate’s (CRPA) role is to support others in recovery from a substance use disorder. The CRPA serves as a role model, mentor, advocate and motivator to recovering individuals in order to help prevent relapse and promote long-term recovery. The CRPA demonstrates an ability to share personal recovery experiences and to develop authentic peer-to-peer relationships. The CRPA provides non-clinical support services as identified in patient’s treatment or recovery plan. CRPAs also assist individuals the development of recovery plans, effective coping habits, and life skills for navigating recovery. Primary Duties & Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Assist clients to adjust to their environment and orientating new clients. Provide non-clinical guidance, support, and encouragement to all project participants, especially after periods of hospitalization or incarceration. Model recovery principles and decision-making skills; assist participants to identify strengths and help them take the lead in their recovery process. Participate in the development of recovery/wellness plans with assigned clients, educating program participants about various modes of recovery. Facilitate on-site nonclinical programs tailored to the interest of clients (support groups, educational groups, art therapy, book clubs, etc.). Escort participants to off-site appointments; assist in the navigation of health care and benefits systems; raising awareness of existing social and other support services. Discuss all concerns with the interdisciplinary team to inform interventions and treatment planning. Link participants to formal and informal recovery supports. Identify barriers (internal and external) to full participation in community resources and developing strategies to overcome those barriers. Document clients encounters in electronic health record review with supervisor on a weekly basis Conduct community visits and outreach. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications/Criteria:

CRPA or CRPA-P, required Good interpersonal skills, enthusiastic about recovery Naloxone, First Aid, and CPR certified Capable of working in an electronic health record (EHR). Strong computer and organizational skills Compassion and dedication to supporting individuals on their recovery journey Effective communication and collaboration abilities Ability to deliver services to a diverse client population in an urban setting

Education:

High School Diploma or G.E.D, required.
