PWCs are trained student leaders who provide one-on-one coaching that supports fellow students in navigating challenges, clarifying goals, and building sustainable wellness habits. Through coaching, outreach, andcation, you will be part of a mission to create a culture of care, resilience, and peer support at USC Upstate. You will also help engage students in meaningful conversations about wellness through events, Wellness Assessments, and QPR (Question, Persuade, Refer) suicide prevention training. Key Responsibilities As a Peer Wellness Coach, you will: Provide individual wellness coaching sessions to help students explore challenges and set personalized, skill-based goals. Facilitate Wellness Assessments to enhance students’ self-awareness and vision for wellness. Create a safe, supportive environment for open conversations and peer connection. Participate in outreach events, tabling, and campus initiatives promoting wellness and mental health. Deliver QPR training to equip students with life-saving suicide prevention skills. Collaborate with studentanizations, residential life, and campus partners on wellness programming. Refer students to Counseling Services, Health Services, and other resources when appropriate. Support the Director of Counseling Services and Peer Wellness Coach Coordinator with projects as needed. What You will Gain Certification as a NASPA Certified Peer Educator and QPR Gatekeeper. Hands-on experience in coaching, leadership, mental health advocacy, and campus engagement. Enhanced skills inmunication, active listening, goal setting, and peer support. Peer Wellness Coaching is not counseling or a clinical service. It does not include diagnosing or treating mental health conditions. Coaches focus on support, goal setting, and empowerment, and refer students to professional help as needed. Special Conditions Must be able to carry outreach supplies (up to 25 lbs.) Must befortable standing for 3-4 hours during events Qualifications Qualifications We are looking for students who are: Enthusiastic about enhancing student wellbeing and mental health on campus. Experienced in leadership, mentoring, customer service, or volunteer roles. Enrolled at USC Upstate with a minimum of 6 credit hours and a GPA of 2.5 or higher. Able tomit to the Peer Wellness Coach role for one academic year (Fall and Spring semesters (2025 – 2026). Organized, dependable, andfortable working independently and as part of a team. Respectful of confidentiality and capable of discussing sensitive topics withpassion.
