Description of Work Administrative Specialist I – Unit Clerk Broughton Hospital is currently recruiting for an Administrative Specialist I – Unit Clerk for the Health Information Management (HIM) department. Broughton Hospital Health Information Management Department is responsible for the provision of all the health information management services for the hospital’s clinical and administrative personnel with primary responsibility for confidentiality of patient records to include HIPAA compliance. HIM is primarily responsible for the accuracy, maintenance, safety, storage, retrieval, initiation and analysis of patient records and related statistical data. Positions within the HIM Department are critical to the hospital mission for providing adequate and compliant health care services to accomplish the vision, mission and values of DHHS. Quantitatively review medical records of newly discharged patients for the purposes of determining compliance with hospital and accrediting agency standards. Facilitate completion of chart by responsible persons, supervisors, and clinical division directors by flagging the chart and reporting deficiency to Assistant Director for reporting and tracking completion of chart. Maintain the medical record files of current patients, as well as the files of the discharged patients until record completion. Thin patient charts at least monthly on units, flagging any deficiencies for correction. Create new chart volumes as needed. Maintain proper chart order and repair forms as needed.
Serve as a liaison between clinical staff, the hospital attorneys, special counsel’s staff, and the relevant county’s clerk of court to coordinate the administrative portion of commitment proceedings to ensure that requests for hearings, as well as commitment status changes are processed completely and timely.
Communicate information on relevant Medical Record policies, procedures, and practices to the staff of the units assigned. Unit Clerk will transport charts to HIM dept as needed for releasing information.
Any other responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor.
Work Schedule:
Monday – Friday 8 am-5 pm. This is a mandatory position and must report in adverse weather.
