Unit Details :
The Medical Patient Intervention Unit (MPIU) will be a new 14-bed acute care hospitalist unit scheduled to open later this year at the UAB Center for Psychiatric Medicine. This new unit will provide care for patients suffering from a psychiatric disorder with a concurrent medical condition that requires additional treatment. Nurses will work as part of an interdisciplinary team to care for: psychiatric patients with varying medical conditions, including uncontrolled diabetes, heart failure, and acute kidney injury; patients suffering from the effects of coexisting severe mental illnesses, including acute psychosis or encephalopathy and toxic ingestions; and, patients with degenerative diseases like Huntington’s disease or a traumatic brain injury. Job Description :
To assume responsibility for certain technical aspects of patient care as directed by the RN/LPN for the hospital. To obtain and record vitals, weight, inputs and outputs. To successfully complete an in-house PCT training program. To demonstrate an awareness of patient and personal safety. Qualifications High School diploma or GED required. Certified with Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) within thirty (30) days of date of employment required.
