    Limited Term Length Job Summary Auburn University is excited to begin the search for a Safety and Health Technician!

This job performs technical duties to include providing support for Auburn University environmental, safety and health programs; to recognize, eliminate, and control safety and health hazards and to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, national consensus standards and the Auburn University Safety Policy. This job will support theareas of Safety and Health and Building Safety Inspection. Essential Functions Maintains a current inventory of all University portable fire extinguishers.
Utilizes bar code software to perform monthly inspection of all University portable fire extinguishers including documentation of inspections performed, results found, and corrective steps taken.
Ensures buildings are equipped with the correct number and types of fire extinguishers to meet code requirements.
Provides oversight of the university’s 3rd party fire extinguisher service provider to ensure annual inspections, 6-year maintenance inspections, and all hydro-static inspections of fire extinguishers are completed according to code requirements and university procedures
Manages the replacement or repair of worn, outdated or damaged fire extinguishers and parts.
Conducts research of fire and life safety codes and industry best practices and performs fire and life safety building surveys.
Provides best practices to university departments on how to mitigate safety hazards.
Provides training to building occupants on the proper use of fire extinguishers. Why Work at Auburn?

Minimum Qualifications Minimum Qualifications Level I

  • High school diploma or equivalent. Level II
  • High school diploma or equivalent plus 1 year of relevant experience in safety and health practices Level III
  • High school diploma or equivalent plus 4 years of relevant experience in safety and health practices Level IV
  • High school diploma or equivalent plus 6 years of relevant experience in safety and health practices Degrees may substitute for years of experience.

Bachelor’s degree = 4 years, Master’s degree = 2 years.
Minimum Skills, License, and Certifications Minimum Skills and Abilities Duties will involve activity outside the office, including substantial walking and climbing, and will require a high degree of organization and time management skills.
Regularly involves lifting, bending or other physical exertion. Often exposed to one or more elements such as heat, cold, noise, dust.
Routine deadlines; usually sufficient lead time; variance in work volume seasonal and predictable; priorities can be anticipated; some interruptions are present; involves occasional exposure to demands and pressures from persons other than immediate supervisor.
Job frequently requires standing, walking, reaching, stooping/kneeling/crouching/crawling, talking, hearing, handling objects with hands.
Job occasionally requires sitting, climbing or balancing, and lifting more than 50 pounds.
