POSITION SUMMARY

POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Formal Education /
Training:
High school graduate or equivalent. Must respond to the hospital within 1 hour for “on call”requirements. Previous scrub tech experience or graduate of scrub techschool Scrub tech certification required BLS within 90 days of hire

Perinatal Health Care Team Equipment and Skills Training:
The ability to work well under pressure, to function dependentlyand independently and to be flexible in applying basic nursingknowledge to a variety of setting.
Equipment for the followingsurgical specialties:
general, AEM; genitourinary, lithotripsy;ophthalmologic/Phacoemulsification/I&A; plastic;orthopedic/Andrews table/total joint replacement/Captain’s Chair/spinal fixation cases; ENT; obstetric/gynecologic; vascular; oral;Amsco Flash Autoclave; Network computer system, Omnicell MedicationSystem, AT&T Language Line.
Physical Environment:
A surgical unit with patient population ranging from less than oneyear of age> ninety-nine plus years of age.
Physical Effort:
Requires the ability to communicate in English orally and inwriting. Requires prolonged standing and working for up to twelve hoursa day. Constantly required to push/pull objects up to 175 lbs. Requires the ability to lift and turn patients with assistanceup to 250 lbs.
PERFORMANCE STANDARDS
Collaborates with labor and delivery surgical team members toeffectively coordinate the delivery of patient care in a timelymanner. Anticipates and provides equipment and supplies in a timelymanner and organized manner based on the needs of the patient andsurgeon. Creates and maintains a sterile field by using principles ofaseptic practice in varying situations, initiates corrective actionwhen break in technique occurs, communicates/documents maintenanceof sterile field. Handles/ transports/ prepares medications/ solutions safely andin accordance with hospital and departmental policies andprocedures. Performs counts by following established policy and procedures,initiates corrective action when counts are incorrect, andcommunicates results of counts. Assists with control of the OR Suite and labor and deliveryenvironment (temperature, humidity, and sensory) maintain trafficpatterns, and adheres to OR sanitation policies. Return equipment and supplies to proper place and prepare ORroom for next case. Demonstrates responsibility for cost containment using suppliesjudiciously and documents patient charges completely andaccurately. Maintain position specific qualification Facilitates staff development, assists with the orientation andtraining of new personnel, and participates in the development ofeducational program for co-workers. Demonstrates responsibility for assigned communication. Returns promptly from breaks and gives breaks as needed.
Completes special assignments and unit duties. Maintains personal appearance in a way that reflects ourprofessionalism and demonstrates to our patients, visitors, andco-workers the importance we place on cleanliness, orderliness andsafety.
