Responsible for assistingthe surgical team by acting as a primary scrub person who handlessurgical instruments, supplies and equipment used in a specializedarea during surgical procedures. A Brief Overview Responsiblefor assisting the surgical team by acting as a primary scrub personwho handles surgical instruments, supplies and equipment used in aspecialized area during surgical procedures. Maintains constantvigilance for the maintenance of the sterile field. Modelsappropriate behavior as exemplified in The Methodist Mission,Vision and Values. What you will do Performs scrub duties to assistphysician/surgeon during surgical procedures. Maintains a sterilefield for surgical services. Ensures adherence to the sterile fieldby applying principles of aseptic techniques. Effectively managesresources such as supplies and equipment. Plans work and completesjob responsibilities in an efficient and productive manner.
Demonstrates professional work behavior and excellent customerservice routinely in all interactions. Performs other duties asassigned. – American Heart Association Certified SurgicalTechnologist – National Board of Surgical Technology and SurgicalAssisting Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Must demonstrate theability to perform the essential functions of the job. Ability tocommunicate verbally with co-workers, physicians and other outsideprofessional staff. Ability to organize tasks and maintain controlof work flow. Ability to perform basic arithmetic calculations aswould be acquired through completion of high school. Ability toread and follow written instruction as would be acquired throughcompletion of high school. Demonstrates ability to problem solve inrelation to the procedure being performed. Applies the principlesof sterile technique during surgical procedures. Participates inorientation and training to attain competency in complex cases andachieve Level II. Must demonstrate the ability & desire to learnand practice clinical competencies of the Surgery Tech. SupervisionProvided by this Position There are no supervisory or leadresponsibilities assigned to this position. Physical Demands Thephysical activities of this position may include climbing, pushing,standing, hearing, walking, reaching, grasping, kneeling, stooping,and repetitive motion. Must have good balance and coordination. Thephysical requirements of this position are: medium work – exertingup to 50 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 25 lbs. of forcefrequently. The Associate is required to have close visual acuityincluding color, depth perception, and field of vision to performan activity, such as assessing patients, preparing and analyzingdata and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; orextensive reading. Frequent invasive and non-invasive patientcontact. Exposure to patient body fluids as well as exposure tohazardous or poisonous materials. Ability to react quickly toemergency situations.
