Jackson Memorial is an accredited, tertiary teaching hospital with 1,500 licensed beds, where nearly every medical specialty is provided by some of the world’s most skilled and highly regarded multidisciplinary team of healthcare professionals Summary Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) provides general emergency care to patients including initial examination upon in-take and responding to day-to-day medical emergencies with patients in assigned area(s). EMT performs functions under the supervision of a physician, medical provider or registered nurse. Performs functions which support the delivery of a single standard of care, under the supervision of a registered nurse, for a group of patients relating to their hygiene, safety, nutrition, elimination and comfort needs. Responsibilities Responds to medical and other emergency and non-emergency calls. Assists the paramedic in providing emergency medical treatment and triage as necessary. Assists in loading patient and provides transportation of patient to a medical facility. Performs technical procedures as delegated, including but not limited to vital signs/telemetry monitoring, collecting specimens, providing wound care, transporting patients, patient positioning, mobility, IV lines, drainage, personal hygiene: bath, dressing, bed making/linen changes etc.). Documents and communicates assessment findings or changes in physical, mental and emotional conditions to medical/nursing staff. Uses a systematic process to provide/modify care and patient/family education and support. Prepares supplies and equipment and utilizes specialized equipment as needed when providing patient care. Assists with keeping department areas clean, stocked, and orderly. Prepares and cleans exam rooms, patient treatment areas and stretchers between patient uses, as needed. Takes and picks up food orders for patient’s kitchen evaluation. Utilizes all required safety measures when performing assigned job duties. Assists in the fabrication of adaptive and assistive equipment, i.e. washing mitts, wheelchair gloves, safety belts, straps, etc. Assists with office duties as needed, i.e. answering phone, taking messages or any other related clerical duties. Follows and performs all related unit specific policies and procedures, as detailed on the unit specific competency check-list. Demonstrates behaviors of service excellence and CARE values (Compassion, Accountability, Respect and Expertise). Performs all other related job duties as assigned. Experience Generally requires 1 to 3 years of related experience. Education High School diploma is required. Graduate of an Accredited Program in Emergency Medical Technician. Skill Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work accurately while meeting multiple deadlines. Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form. Ability to handle difficult and stressful situations with critical thinking and professional composure. Ability to understand and follow instructions. Knowledge and skill in use of job appropriate technology and software applications. Must meet and maintain current all unit specific and organizational skills/competencies, certifications/licensures, as required by the clinical area. Credentials Valid Florida EMT certification is required. American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) and any additional applicable life support certification for Healthcare Providers is required upon hire with at least 6 months validity and maintenance at JHS for the duration of employment.
