Obtaining patient health history for Chief complaints, medication history, and information about health-related or high-risk conditions that may impact the patient’s health status. Assisting in behavioral/ psychiatric situations in an emergency setting. The candidate will maintain a safe and therapeutic environment for the patient while promoting a sense of worth and dignity under the supervisor of the licensed personnel. Performs duties focused on communication techniques required to complete the questioners and template approved for use in the ED, including active listening, restating, and mirroring. The ICT participates in the triage process by assisting with patient transport obtaining vital signs, performing screens, gathering pertinent health history, medication history, and information about the chief complaint and communicates findings to appropriate clinical staff. The candidate may be asked to respond to medical emergencies on the facility grounds, and sometimes encounters situation which may be life threatening as part of the Rapid Response Team (RRT), Code Blue, or medical transport team. Works in concert with other members of these teams to determine the nature, extent, and seriousness of the patient’s condition including the search for medical alert symbols and medication. The candidate may be assigned to assist the triage RN as a clinical greeter tasked with rotating through the waiting room to observe patients who are waiting for triage, waiting to be seen, or have been triaged by the RN and are waiting a treatment room assignment. Specimen collection and preparation, such as collecting and labeling venous blood samples and mucous specimens. Equipment and surgical instrumentation set up, such as chest tube insertion, filling water chambers, handling instruments in a sterile filed, and hooking up to suction when ordered. Geriatric-specific care with screening for depression, elder abuse, consults, phone follow-up, in-person follow-up and assisting with ambulation, fall prevention.

Specialized Experience:
You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS
- 6 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization.
Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Experience in recognizing life threatening situations and act to correct these emergent situations according to established national or local protocols; understanding the legal/ethical considerations of critical care (e.g., actual/implied consent, patient rights, advanced directives, etc); taking and recording diagnostic signs to perform patient evaluations and screenings; assisting in behavioral/psychiatric situations; and assisting licensed personnel with complex, specialized, and potentially-life threatening situations. Knowledge of direct patient care techniques, including activities of daily living (ADLs), ambulating patients, infection control, and emergency response; uses appropriate safety precautions. Knowledge of utilizing medical terminology when interpreting requests and provide proper documentation for surgical procedures. Experience in Utilizing universal precautions to protect patients and staff from exposure to any infectious materials. Experience in Preparing prosthesis and/or surgical devices during procedures. Experience in providing transportation of patients to and from the surgical/operating room.
