Job DescriptionDescriptionA Clinical Support Tech II (CST II) isneeded for 1 Memorial. The CST II is a dual role of the NursingAssistant II and a Health Unit Coordinator. This is a 25-bedObservation Unit. The team provides care to adult observationpatients with a variety of medical diagnoses to include cardiologywork up; COPD exacerbation; Intravenous therapy; and abdominal painwork up. The environment is fast paced and requires a great deal ofinterdisciplinary collaboration and teamwork. The team facilitatesadmissions, treatments, transfers and discharges of patients. Theunit is open 7 days a week and 24 hours per day. The staff on thisunit will also be cross trained to staff 4 West, a 12-bed MedicalSurgical Observation unit which provides care to varied adultpopulation to include observation, extended recovery from PACU, andMedical Surgical acute care patients awaiting an inpatient bedassignment. Both 1 Memorial and 4 West are considered one teamworking in two locations, under the same management team.

Thisposition qualifies for an extensive benefit package including PTOhours, which are accrued based on the number of worked hours. Summary:

The ClinicalSupport Technician II is responsible for assisting the professionalcaregiver in the delivery of patient care, transporting patient and/ or equipment, setting up and maintaining patient rooms, andperforming a wide range of clerical, transcription, and maintenanceof the patient care unit desk area functions. Performs patient carerequiring clinical and procedural knowledge and skills requiringthe use of sterile techniques, infusion monitoring, and medicalequipment. Coordinates the flow of communications on the patientcare unit. The Clinical Support Technician II may or may not begiven a defined patient care assignment based on unit needs and thediscretion of the manager / charge nurse. Tracks supply inventory,orders supplies and special items. Assists unit with clerical andadministrative support including PI audits and dataentry.

Responsibilities:

1. Assist physicians and other health careproviders with routine examinations and procedures, as well asprocurement of equipment and supplies.2. Critically review patientcare documentation making note of any significant changes in thepatient’s condition and make an immediate report to a registerednurse or physician.3. Provide a variety of clerical tasks toinclude but not limited to organizing and prioritizing workload,greeting and directing visitors, researching information asrequested by nurses and physicians, reviewing orders for logic andclarity, revising orders as requested by the nurse, answering thetelephone/ patient call lights, transcribing physician orders, andmaintaining medical records. Perform routine quality assuranceaudits, safety checks, and inventory of supplies.4. Provideadministrative and clerical support including PI audits and dataentry5. Provide clinical support assistance to include, but notlimited to, cleaning the work area, maintaining office equipment,troubleshooting common software and hardware problems, changinglinens, checking supply inventory, re-stocking supplies,transporting patients/ supplies/ specimens, and assisting in theorientation of new employees and students.6. Provide directpersonal care to patients as outlined in plan of care activitiessuch as bathing, dressing, feeding, assisting with ambulation.

Measure and record vital signs, and patient height and weight. Maybe responsible for specimen collection, skin preps/scrubs, cathetercare, capillary blood glucose checks, simple wound care, range ofmotion exercises, and/or postural drainage. Performs Oxygen roomset-up and monitors oxygen flow-rate, performs oropharyngeal andnasopharyngeal suctioning, tracheostomy care, fecal impactionremoval, sterile dressing change wound irrigation, IV fluidassembly and monitoring, IV site care and discontinue peripheralIV, ostomy irrigation and care, urinary catheterization andirrigation, performs established oral, nasogastric, gastrostomytube feeding7. Reinforce routine teaching given to patients by theregistered nurse or physician and document patient understanding ofinstructions.     • Listed asNursing Assistant II with the North Carolina Board of Nursing.
    • Listed as Nursing Assistant I with the North Carolina Department ofHealth and Human Services.
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) for HealthcareProvider certification
    • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)certification
    Professional Experience Requirements:
    • One (1) year ofclerical or customer service experience and six (6) months ofrelated nursing assistant experience, which may include a nursingassistant course or an equivalent combination of education,training and experience.
    Knowledge/Skills/and AbilitiesRequirements:
    • Must be fluent in verbal and written Englishlanguage.

    Capability to develop computer skills if notcompetent.
