Job Summary and Qualifications
The Patient Care Tech EMT is primarily responsible for adhering to the hospital’s policies and guidelines in providing safe quality patient care. The PCT performs all functions under the general direction of the Nurse Manager/Unit Charge Nurse and the supervision of a Registered Nurse within the parameters established by the State Board of Nursing.
Patient Population Served :
The Patient Care Technician EMT is expected to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care based on the physical ability, intellectual development, psychosocial, education and safety needs of the patient.
Essential Position Functions :

Patient Care Functions:
Assists the RN with data collection on admission and throughout the patient’s hospitalization. Collects specimens and assists in the performance of procedures within the scope of LNA practice. Documents selected information. Observes and reports patient’s needs and responses. Organizes and prioritizes work and patient needs. Demonstrates good judgment in analyzing facts and conditions to determine what actions should be taken or reported to the Registered Nurse. Answers call lights and assists patients with personal hygiene and ADL. Utilizes knowledge of growth and development to provide care for patients with age specific needs. Assists in the admission, transfer and discharge process of patients. 2.
Clerical Functions:
Transcribes physician orders demonstrating accuracy, efficiency and neatness. Utilizes order communication accurately for ordering, information and communication. Maintains system on-line. 3. Demonstrates effective collaborative communication skills which relay clear, timely and accurate information. 4. Supports departments’ customer service efforts. Provides service excellence to patients and their families, medical staff, peers, support services and other hospital personnel. Refers customer complaints to charge nurse for collaborative problem solving. 5. Demonstrates an awareness of, and support for, the hospital’s Mission and Values Statements and Strategic Plan. Assists in the formation and accomplishment of unit goals and objectives.
6. Performs all duties maintaining patient confidentiality, privacy and respect. Complies with HIPPA regulations. 7. Participates in hospital and departmental inservices, staff meetings, processes and committees which promote growth, objective problem solving, and team building. 8. Maintains a safe and therapeutic environment for patients, families, staff, and corrects hazards promptly. Assists in checking equipment within the assigned unit. Adheres to hospital safety policy and procedure. 9. Follows the principles of Infection Control as outlined in the Infection Control Manual. Demonstrates knowledge of patient precautions and clean vs. sterile technique. 10. Maintains floor stock and assist in ordering and organizing the stock and supplies. 11. Participates in department Performance Improvement program by collaborating with the department’s PI representatives and Nurse Manager. 12. Complies with established hospital policies and procedures. 13. Demonstrates a commitment to containing costs and efficient use of material resources.
What qualifications you will need:
Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
Nonviolent Crisis Intervention must be obtained within 90 days of employment start date
