SELECTIVE FACTOR

These positions perform Emergency Medical services providing pient care in a clinical, ambulance, and/or field setting. You must possess a valid/current Nional Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) certificion

EXPERIENCE

At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-06 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or prive sectors). This experience includes activities such as: employment in a 911 based system responding to medical calls to identify and tre trauma and emergencies; independently conducting accure and complete pient assessments; completing medical reports, including insurance and billing informion; leading or training others performing EMS work; and communicing medical informion with pients, medical staff, and public safety personnel.

Successful completion of least one year of full-time gradue level educion with a major study in a field directly reled to the position, such as anomy and physiology.

Physical Demands:

Incumbent must pass physical exam and drug test prior to entry. Incumbent must maintain good physical condition and be able to pass the Physical Exercise Btery (PEB) twice a year, outlined in Director’s Order/Reference Manual-57 NPS Occupional Medical Standards, Health and Fitness prior to entry. Must be able to pass fit test for respiror use as outline in

OSHA 1910.134.

Work demands range from modere periods of office work (walking, standing, sitting, and lifting) to strenuous periods of extreme physical and mental activity. Emergency medical services activities involve walking long distances over rough terrain, carrying heavy loads and using technical rescue equipment. Incumbent must be able to work in high rise and confined spaces. Incumbent must be able to fly in a helicopter without ill effects.

Working Conditions:

Work is performed in an office setting, classroom, in the field and on wer. Rescue and EMS work involves frequent exposure to hazardous environments, hazardous flight landings and takeoffs, extremes in temperure, and exposure to communicable diseases.
