Job Responsibilities:
- + Perform duties in line with system-wide competencies and behaviors.
+ Report equipment malfunctions. + Establish effective communication strategies. + Maintain professional and respectful relationships. + Assist with unit activities (e.g., responding to call lights, passing meal trays, transporting patients).
Core Nursing Assistant Duties:
+ Assist with ADLs (bathing, feeding, transporting, toileting, ambulating). + Perform point-of-care testing, monitor vital signs, and assist with patient care equipment. + Maintain a safe and organized environment. + Acquire and distribute supplies and equipment.
Communication & Teamwork:
+ Communicate clearly with the healthcare team. + Understand cultural diversity and support workplace safety. + Develop productive working relationships and demonstrate accountability.
Patient Care:
+ Provide direct patient care as directed by the RN. + Ensure patient safety and cleanliness. + Deliver patient nourishments and mail.
Additional Responsibilities:
+ Provide diversional activities and document in medical records. + Complete clerical functions and comply with safety policies. + Respond to emergent situations and provide companionship as needed. + Support departmental changes and assume responsibility for assignments. +
Nursing Assistant:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Successful completion of UPMC nursing assistant or EIC training program
- Knowledge of body mechanics and transfer techniques.
- Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing.
- Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) preferred.
- Access to medications is limited to the distribution of the medication to the nurse.
Patient Care Technician:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Must also have eithera) 1 Year of general healthcare experience, ORb) 6 months of experience as UPMC Nursing Assistant/CNA with PCT competency achieved within 120 days of hire/transfer/promotion, ORc) enrollment in
PT/OT/PA
program or related healthcare training program with completion of at least one clinical rotation, ORd) completion of a bachelor’s degree in a health sciences field.
- Successful completion of UPMC patient care technician class
- Successful completion of basic information system training.
- Microcomputer experience preferred.
- Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing.
- Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)or Paramedic or currently enrolled in an EMT or Paramedic program preferred.
- Access to medications is limited to the distribution of the medication to the nurse.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
- CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire ACLS preferred + Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) + Act 34 with renewal
