Full-Time Patient Care Technician (PCT) – 6 Main | UPMC Hamot UPMC Hamot is currently hiring a Full-Time Patient Care Technician (PCT) to join our dedicated team on 6 Main, our same-day surgery unit. This is a Monday-Friday daytime position with flexible shift options—choose from 8- or 12-hour shifts to best fit your schedule. About 6

6 Main is a dynamic and fast-paced surgical unit that serves a diverse patient population. The PCT role here is critical—often being the first person to interact with patients as they prepare for procedures and begin recovery. From pre-op preparation to post-op care, this is a meaningful opportunity to make a real impact on the patient experience. Title and starting pay rate of this position may vary based on years of experience.

What You’ll Do:

As a Patient Care Technician (PCT) on 6 Main at UPMC Hamot, you’ll play a vital role in delivering high-quality, compassionate care. This unit specializes in same-day surgery and recovery, and PCTs are often the first point of contact for our patients.

Key Responsibilities:

Welcome patients, obtain weight and vital signs, escort them to rooms, and assist with pre-operative preparation. Support Phase II Recovery by obtaining post-operative vitals and helping patients prepare for discharge. Assist with daily living activities including hygiene, mobility, toileting, and nutrition. Perform clinical tasks such as blood glucose monitoring, specimen collection, bladder scans, 12-lead EKGs, and Foley catheter care. Respond to call lights, assist with patient transport, and contribute to overall unit operations. Communicate clearly and effectively with patients, families, and the care team; promptly report changes in patient condition. Provide education and emotional support to patients and families under the direction of the RN. Maintain safety and infection control protocols and adhere to hospital policies at all times. Participate in continuous learning, feedback, and department initiatives. May perform advanced skills (based on department needs) such as phlebotomy, IV or Foley catheter removal, NG tube care, and more.

Qualifications:
Qualifications:

High school diploma or GED required. Must also meet one of the following: 1 year of general healthcare experience. 6 months of experience as a UPMC Nursing Assistant/CNA with PCT competency. Enrollment in a PT, OT, PA, or related healthcare training program with completion of at least one clinical rotation. Bachelor’s degree in a health sciences field. Successful completion of UPMC Patient Care Technician training and eRecord training required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or Paramedic certification, or current enrollment in an EMT/Paramedic program. ACLS certification is preferred.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification is required, based on AHA standards including both didactic and skills demonstration components. Must be obtained within 30 days of hire. Why UPMC Hamot?
