Monday through Friday 7-3:30pm, no weekends or holidays Title and Salary will be determined based upon education and experience. This role involves a combination of direct patient care and administrative coordination within the Interventional Radiology department. Responsibilities include ordering supplies, managing patient charges, scheduling procedures, and coordinating with various departments such as the Heart and Vascular office, Neuro Interventional office, and Hillman Cancer Center. The position requires effective communication between departments to ensure smooth patient throughput and daily workflow. It also involves managing add-on cases and emergencies. On the clinical side, the role includes assisting in the holding area by connecting patients to monitors, taking vital signs, prepping patients for procedures, completing pre-op paperwork, and providing updates and support to families. Overall, this position plays a key role in both patient care and operational efficiency within the procedure lab.
Responsibilities:
Assists with patient care, procedures, and activities of daily living (ADLs). Supports physical, respiratory, and cardiopulmonary therapies. Reports patient status changes and provides feedback to the RN.
Performs core nursing assistant duties:
blood glucose, weights, vital signs, I&O, specimen collection, Foley care. Completes at least four advanced tasks: phlebotomy, 12-lead EKG, simple dressings, Foley/IV removal, bladder scan, straight catheter, point-of-care testing. Reports equipment malfunctions and communicates effectively with other departments. Responds to call lights, phones, passes meal trays, and transports patients. Accepts feedback, identifies learning needs, and seeks help with prioritization. Provides patient/family instruction under RN direction; manages restraints per protocol. Demonstrates clear communication, cultural sensitivity, and workplace safety awareness. Adheres to all patient care and hospital policies, including safety and standard precautions. Supports departmental changes, projects, and quality initiatives. Documents care accurately and performs clerical duties as needed. Must be competent in ADLs, telemetry application, safety indicators, and specimen collection. May perform advanced skills based on department needs: phlebotomy, IV/Foley removal, EKG, NG tube management, basic arrhythmia recognition. Medication access is limited to delivering meds to the nurse. High school diploma or GED required. Must meet one of the following experience/education criteria: 1 year of general healthcare experience. 6 months as a UPMC Nursing Assistant/CNA with PCT competency within 120 days. Enrollment in a PT/OT/PA or related healthcare program with at least one clinical rotation completed. Bachelor’s degree in a health sciences field. Successful completion of UPMC Patient Care Technician class. Successful completion of eRecord training. EMT or Paramedic certification preferred, or current enrollment in an EMT/Paramedic program.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
