The coordinator plays a vital role in ensuring the health and safety of our campers and staff through the prompt and effective delivery of first aid, oversight of daily medication administration, and response to medical needs ranging from minor injuries to urgent care situations. The coordinator will report to the Camp Director and work closely with leadership staff to maintain a safe and supportive environment for all camp participants. This position is ideal for individuals with experience in emergency medical care, athletic training, or nursing. While the role does not require nursing credentials, it requires sound clinical judgment, a calm demeanor in high-pressure situations, and strong organizational skills. Training and certification in Medication Administration (MAT) will be provided for those who do not already hold this qualification. Campers’ days are full of activity, exploration, and growth, which makes having a trusted medical professional on site essential to the success of the camp community. The First Aid & Medication Coordinator will help manage chronic health conditions (such as asthma or allergies), distribute daily medications, maintain accurate health records, and serve as a primary point of contact with families regarding camper health concerns. Responsibilities :
Provide timely and appropriate care for routine and emergency health needs, including triage, treatment, and accurate documentation of injuries and illnesses. Oversee the secure collection, storage, and administration of both prescription and over-the-counter medications, following written protocols and parental instructions. Maintain up-to-date and confidential health records for campers and staff, ensuring compliance with all camp and school guidelines. Communicate clearly and professionally with parents/guardians, the Summer Camp Director, and the USN Health Room regarding any camper health concerns or incidents. Monitor medical supplies, replenish first aid kits, and recommend purchases to maintain readiness. Keep the health care space clean, safe, and properly stocked, including the responsible disposal of medical waste. Participate in camp-wide safety planning and assist in managing health-related risks, including response to illness outbreaks or serious incidents. Support camp operations with administrative tasks during times when medical needs are minimal. Fulfill additional duties as assigned by the Summer Camp Director or Director of Auxiliary Programs.
Qualifications and Experience Required:
Minimum age 19 and completion of at least one year of post-secondary education. Current certification in Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED (American Red Cross or equivalent). Willingness and eligibility to complete MAT certification for medication administration (training provided). Ability to work outdoors and with children in a camp setting. Strong communication, organizational, and teamwork skills.
Preferred:
EMT, athletic trainer, or nursing background (not a nursing position). Experience working with children or in a camp environment. Valid driver’s license for potential transport of individuals to healthcare facilities.
