Job Description

Cardiac Sonographer Lead – Alexander City Clinic 3.9 3.9 out of 5 stars

Birmingham, AL Schedule:

Monday-Friday 8am-5pm

Location:

Alexander City Clinic To ensure the efficient operation of assigned area. To schedule staff in order to meet patient needs. To serve as a technical resource to other technologists. To perform high quality diagnostic adult cardiac ultrasound examinations, ranging in complexity from basic to advanced, in a manner consistent with all applicable regulations, policies and procedures. To operate diagnostic ultrasound equipment to perform procedures including, but not limited to, transthoracic (TTE), transesophageal (TEE) and stress echocardiography including agitated saline and contrast studies. To apply knowledge of clinical cardiology acoustic imaging technology and problem-solving skills to optimize the echocardiography evaluation.

Schedules staff to ensure patient care needs are met. Serves as a technical resource; trains staff as needed. Ensures departmental policies and applicable regulatory standards are followed. 2. Performs basic to advanced cardiac ultrasound procedures for adult patient population utilizing a variety of diagnostic equipment and techniques. Makes the necessary measurements to obtain accurate, high quality results required for interpretation. Appropriately identifies and defines cardiac abnormalities. Thoroughly understands the purpose of the examination; scrutinizes the clinical question(s) to be answered. Extends the scope of the examination, deviating from standard techniques as appropriate. Correlates invasive and noninvasive cardiac diagnostic test results with cardiac anatomy and function. 3. Prepares patient for procedure, assumes responsibility for safety as well as physical and psychological comfort. Obtains pertinent lab data and patient’s clinical history, including cardiac related findings. Properly adapts imaging technique(s) used. Positions the patient in a manner to facilitate optimum diagnostic results. Views, records and analyzes images. Determines if images are satisfactory for diagnostic purposes. 4. May assist physician in procedure or operating room by performing echocardiography studies to assist in complex procedures. May assist cardiologist in performing transesophageal (TEE) studies. Calculates appropriate measurements. 5. Performs preliminary echocardiographic reporting on all studies 6. Records statistics and performs daily maintenance of the echocardiography lab and equipment. Performs daily cleaning of all ultrasound equipment. Reports all equipment malfunctions as appropriate. 7. Maintains knowledge of proper infection control principles and precautionary procedures, Promotes continuous improvement in workplace safety, environmental, exposure control, and/or infection control practices. 8. Performs other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements:
Minimum Requirements:

Graduate of an accredited sonography program preferred. Three (3) years relevant experience required.

Licenses/Certifications/Registrations:

Currently credentialed as a Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) or Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) by the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) OR currently credentialed as a Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) by Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) required. All candidates must successfully complete ultrasound scanning of the heart as part of the interview process.
