Position Summary:

Assists the Patient Access Director in planning, directing,updating, and evaluating the processes performed in the variouslocations of the Patient Access Department. Ensures that servicesprovided are safe, efficient, and professional in manner andconsistent with departmental and hospital policies. Develops,implements, and evaluates staff education to meet the specificlearning needs of the Patient Access Staff. Oversees the staff andprocesses in multiple locations, providing supervision, support,and coaching while ensuring adequate staffing coverage. Worksclosely with and cross-trains with the Pre Service Manager toexpedite patient flow and insure patient friendly workflows.

Focuses on the keys to patient access success (quality, service,and finance which are all dependent on the people (staff)performing the work).

Position Requirements:

Formal Education /

Training:

College degree preferred, equivalent work experience will beconsidered. Must have a working knowledge of Patient Access andprocesses. Must be detailed oriented with knowledge of insurancesand insurance assignment, collections and must have goodcommunication skills to covey department and hospital policies.

Workplace Experience:

At least five years of clerical office experience At least five years of patient access management experiencerequired

Telephone, Meditech System, scanning software, Fax, PT650,Label/Armband Printers, Copier, Passport, AccuReg, Cisco phonesystem, API time and attendance system, Event notification incidentreporting system, Healthstream On-line training system, Excel,Word, Internet, PowerPoint, and PBX console

Key Results:

Coordinates daily operations of the Patient Access department inall assigned locations. Recommends and implements changes ofcurrent processes in a cost effective manner. Coordinates staffingof Patient Registration department to ensure maximum effectivenessand efficiency. Ensures cash management procedures are current andare being followed. Facilitates staff development, assists with theorientation/training of new personnel, and participates in thedevelopment of educational program for co-workers. Maintains knowledge and communicates with staff regarding changesin systems and/or processes. Maintains working knowledge of allpositions in department, Meditech modules and other systems used inthe department. Uses systems to support/enhance workflows. Works with other departments on issues pertaining to theregistration process. Completes employee evaluations and reviews with staff in a timelymanner in accordance with JCAHO standards. Completes time and attendance edits timely and maintains accuracyin accordance with hospital and departmental policies. Communicates effectively with staff through staff meetings, email,huddle and individually. Follows through with issues and respondsto others in a timely manner with resolution. Seeks and performs other related duties assigned by the patientaccess director. Maintains Patient Registration reports for timely billing andactivation of PRE-status accounts. Ensures VMB is keptup-to-date. Works closely with Pre Service Manager to ensure efficient andcustomer focused work flows are in place. Supervises, supports and coaches staff. Effectively managesemployees. Re-recruits high-performers and effectively deals withlow-performers. Selects and hires well. Uses LEAN problem solving methodologies effectively. Facilitatesresolution to root causes of issues.
