POSITION SUMMARY
Responsible for promoting and maintainingquality patient care through effective management and coordinationof direct and indirect care activities during assigned shift.
Allocates available resources to promote efficient, effective andcompassionate patient care. Provides clinical and administrativeleadership and expertise. Facilitates interdisciplinary teamrelationships. Visible, accessible and committed to communicatingeffectively with staff. Promotes the profession of nursing andprofessional practice. Represents the organization in a positiveand professional manner. In the absence of the Administrator and/ordesignee, has the authority and responsibility for administrativedecisions and appropriate notification of theAdministrator-on-Call.
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION
Bachelors Degree orcurrently enrolled in such a program. A current Registered Nurselicense from the State of Connecticut is required. Certification ishighly desirable. Clinical and managerial competency must beretained for area of assignment including Basic Cardiac LifeSupport (BCLS).
EXPERIENCE
Must have at least three (3) years ofnursing experience in an acute care setting with demonstratedleadership potential.
COMPETENCIES
Able to communicate effectivelyin English both verbally and in writing Basic computer skills inWORD, EXCEL, and OUTLOOK are necessary.

Participates innursing and organizational policy formulation and decision makingthrough participation in councils and committees. 7. FollowsPharmacy protocols for obtaining drugs when the Pharmacist isunavailable. 8. Assumes the duties as outlined in the EmergencyPreparedness Manual. 9. Demonstrates an ability to be flexible,organized and function under stressful situations. Utilizescritical thinking skills and sound judgment in priority setting anddelegation. 10. Pursues personal and professional growth anddevelopment. Serves as a professional role model and mentor. 11.Responds to emergent situations and coordinates, directs andevaluates staff response. 12. Promotes patient satisfaction throughthe delivery of high-quality patient care, regular patient roundsand implementation of service recovery techniques. Follows protocolfor responding to patient complaints and grievances. 13. Providesinput to staff performance evaluations and monitoring of actionplans. 14. Uses good judgment in ensuring adherence to establishedhospital procedures and policies. Effectively addresses unusualpatient care or unit management issues. HPECHN
