POSITION SUMMARY

The Health Information Management (HIM) Administrator is responsible for the strategic oversight, implementation, and continuous improvement of health information management systems and policies across the organization. This exempt-level leadership role ensures the accuracy, security, and integrity of patient health records while driving compliance with federal and state regulations, including HIPAA. The HIM Administrator collaborates cross-functionally with clinical, operational, and IT departments to optimize electronic health record (EHR) performance, support organizational initiatives, lead audits and compliance efforts, and mentor team members. Additionally, the HIM Administrator plays a key role in advancing data governance, supporting analytics, and driving innovation in health informatics.

GENERAL EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

 Bachelor’s degree in Health Information Management, Health Informatics, Healthcare Administration, or a related field (Master’s preferred).  Health Information Administrator certification preferred.

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATION

 Minimum of 3-5 years of progressive experience in Health Information Management or a related healthcare setting, with demonstrated leadership responsibilities.  Strong working knowledge of EHR systems (e.g., Epic, Cerner, or comparable platforms) and healthcare data management tools.  Proven understanding of regulatory standards, HIPAA, and best practices related to documentation, coding, and privacy compliance.  Experience overseeing audits, release of information processes, and medical record workflows.  Proficiency in medical coding systems (ICD-10, CPT) is a plus.  Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel for data analysis and reporting.  Excellent interpersonal, organizational, analytical, and communication skills.  Demonstrated ability to lead and support cross-functional teams, manage complex projects, and foster collaboration across departments.

PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITIES

 Lead the HIM function across the organization, ensuring alignment with clinical operations, compliance standards, and strategic goals.  Oversee the management, accuracy, and security of all patient health records and EHR data.  Develop, implement, and maintain HIM policies and procedures aligned with best practices and compliance standards.  Serve as a subject matter expert and resource for internal stakeholders on HIM-related regulations, including HIPAA, record retention, and information governance.  Lead data integrity initiatives, perform periodic quality audits, and oversee documentation accuracy.  Manage and respond to complex release of information (ROI) requests in accordance with legal and organizational requirements.  Support EHR optimization, configuration changes, and upgrades in collaboration with IT and clinical teams.  Supervise and mentor HIM team members; provide guidance, training, and ongoing development.  Partner with compliance, legal, clinical, and administrative departments to support audits, accreditation processes, and performance improvement initiatives.  Analyze trends, identify gaps, and report findings and recommendations to leadership.  Act as a liaison with third-party vendors and oversee HIM-related technology solutions.  Ensure timely resolution of HIM-related service tickets and escalate issues when necessary.  Stay current with evolving federal and state regulations, industry trends, and HIM technologies.
