POSITION SUMMARY
The System Director of Surgical Services provides senior leadership and strategic direction for perioperative services across Health First’s Integrated Delivery Network (IDN). Reporting to the Vice President of Surgical Services, the System Director of Surgical Services ensures the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered surgical care, operational efficiency, and compliance with regulatory standards. The System Director of Surgical Services advances High Reliability Organization (HRO) culture by embedding safety-first behaviors, standardization, and continuous learning throughout the system. The System Director of Surgical Services will collaborate closely with medical staff, operational leaders, and frontline teams to ensure safe, timely, and patient-centered surgical care. The System Director of Surgical Services collaborates with clinical and administrative leaders to drive performance improvement, standardize practices, and enhance patient and staff satisfaction across all surgical departments.
PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITES
Leads the perioperative service line across all four Health First hospitals and ambulatory centers to ensure consistency and excellence in service delivery and supports leadership in developing and executing multi-year plans for surgical services growth, access, and innovation, Aligning departmental goals with Health First’s mission and objectives. Oversee the daily operations of perioperative services, including operating rooms, pre-operative and post-anesthesia care units (PACU), sterile processing, endoscopy, and surgical support departments. Serves as a champion for High Reliability practices across all surgical settings and partners with Health First’s Quality & Safety and Clinical Risk teams to proactively identify and mitigate safety risks and Integrates HRO principles into daily management, event review processes, and performance improvement plans Participates in Root Cause Analyses (RCAs) and Failure Modes and Effects Analyses (FMEAs) related to surgical events, and ensure sustainable corrective actions are implemented. Standardizes clinical workflows, documentation, and practices to reduce variation and improve safety and efficiency and monitors and improves key performance indicators (KPIs) such as surgical throughput, turnover times, staff productivity and patient flow and implements evidence-based practices and standardize protocols across the system Ensures compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards, including those set by The Joint Commission and CMS. Leads quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient safety and clinical outcomes. Collaborates with infection prevention and surgical quality committees to meet or exceed clinical benchmarks and with physician groups and organizational leaders with improvement-related activities that improve operational and clinical efficiency while maintaining or enhancing the quality of patient care. Analyzes financial data to identify trends and areas for improvement, and support succession planning, cross-training, and professional growth pathways Serves as a liaison between surgical services and other departments, including anesthesia, nursing, and administration, while facilitating interdisciplinary collaboration to improve patient care and operational efficiency

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN).
Work Experience:
Seven (7) years’ progressive leadership experience in perioperative services. Five (5) years’ experience working in a multi-facility or system-level role.
Licensure:
Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in the State of Florida or endorsement.
Certification:
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:
Strong knowledge of surgical services operations, clinical workflows, and regulatory requirements. Expert understanding and ability to lead HRO initiatives, clinical safety programs, or Just Culture implementations. Ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels of the organization. Expert ability in managing surgical services operations, quality improvement, and financial performance. Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills. Ability to analyze complex data and make informed decisions. Proficiency in financial management and budget development. Familiarity with Epic Electronic Medical Record.
PREFFERED QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Master’s degree in Nursing (MSN), Business or Healthcare Administration (MBA/MHA).
Certification:
Certified Nurse Operating Room (CNOR).
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Physically agile; may require walking, standing, running, bending, stooping, kneeling, climbing, or crouching frequently. May occasionally include lifting or moving objects up to 50 pounds, with or without assistance. May require moving in different positions to accomplish tasks in various environments including tight and confined spaces, including reaching out and above shoulders, or overhead. May lift, turn, pull, push, or ambulate people and/or equipment with or without assistance up to 90% of the assigned shift. May be exposed to inside and outside environments with varied temperatures, air quality, lighting, and/or low to loud noise. May require working with biohazards such as blood/body fluids and airborne particles following OSHA and CDC guidelines. Communicating with others to exchange information. Visual acuity and hand-eye coordination to perform tasks. Workspace may vary from open to confined.
