Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The Medical Referral Coordinator is responsible for a variety of tasks including; prior authorizations, verifying insurance and account information, processing and managing referrals. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Responsible for providing, assessing and improving customer services/relations with our patients and customers. Assists in management of communication between patient-provider, insurance, and ancillary departments as needed. Responsible for reviewing, updating, inputting, and coordinating medical information by completing required data entry to electronic medical record. Responsible for verifying insurance requirements and ensuring required documentation is available prior to scheduling appointments. Creating new patient registration, by entering patient demographics ensuring accuracy of data into EMR, while avoiding creation of duplicate accounts. Communicating with providers and office staff, using EMR message system, providing a detailed for coordination of patient care. Communicates with primary care provider (PCP) to inform any delays or barriers to patient care. Correct authorizations that were incorrectly entered into referral system. Ensures proper management, security, confidentiality of medical records, adhering to HIPAA standards. Accurately approve referrals that fall within their scope of practice as determined by the medical leadership Support the team and be available during all audits, answering questions regarding referrals and authorizations, as needed. Will be required to process 30 plus referrals per day. Verify, document and update insurance information with each patient encounter Perform related duties as assigned by supervisor. Maintain compliance with all company policies and procedures.

REQUIREMENTS
Experience:

1-2 years referral processing experience preferred 1-2 years insurance verification experience preferred 1+ years medical office experience preferred

Education:

Associates or applicable industry certification

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

General health care knowledge. Understanding/compliance of HIPAA laws and regulations. Computer proficiency (MS Office – Word, Excel and Outlook) Ability to demonstrate exceptional customer service skills over the phone Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to read, understand and follow oral and written instructions. Must be well organized, detail-oriented and demonstrate accuracy. Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices. Able to work in a team environment. Ability to operate standard office machines and equipment, including telephones, computers, copy machines, fax machines, calculators, scanners and shredders. Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards Type a minimum of 40 wpm

Physical Requirements:

Requires sitting and standing associated with a normal office environment. Manual dexterity needed for using a computer keyboard. Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

Environmental Working Conditions:

. The noise level of the work environment is usually moderate. Occasional overtime may be required and/or hours may be shortened as business needs dictate.
