Assistant Director, Pre-Health Experiential Learning 4.3 4.3 out of 5 stars Tallahassee, FL Department The Florida State University Career Center Responsibilities Position Focus Statement The Assistant Director, Pre-Health Experiential Learning will oversee career readiness and experiential learning programming as well as career advising services for students and alumni in pursuit of admission to graduate programs and attainment of jobs across the spectrum of healthcare. In addition, this role will supervise a team of three pre-health Career Liaisons. Responsibilities Implement strategies to increase student participation in health profession preparation through training workshops, simulation events, job shadowing, mentorship and networking opportunities to enhance their competitiveness in the marketplace. Create inroads to help students leverage existing pre-health co-curricular opportunities on- and off-campus such as research through centers and institutes, etc. Establish partnerships with healthcare organizations, clinics, research institutions, and other industry stakeholders, to create a network of new opportunities for learners, thereby facilitating internships, externships, apprenticeships, job shadowing and workplace training models to ensure students gain relevant hands-on experience. Provide supervision and training to Career Liaison, Graduate Students, Student Assistants and Interns. Serve as team lead supervising embedded career liaisons serving students pursuing careers in healthcare. Deepen understanding of breadth of healthcare and healthcare adjacent professions (IT, startups, etc.) and needed essential skills for success in those professions among career center colleagues and stakeholders. Prepare students for success in a globalized healthcare landscape by promoting international experiences, competence training, and opportunities for students to engage with domestic experiences exposing them to global health issues and specialized population healthcare institutions. Establish and strengthen collaborative initiatives that support pre-health student career development and workforce readiness among the FSU Health ecosystem, including but not limited to: College of Medicine’s Office of Pre-Health Advising, College of Nursing, Anne Spencer Daves College of Education, Health, and Human Sciences, FSU Research Centers & Institutes, Health Data Sciences Initiative, Healthy Campus Initiative, University Health & Wellness Center, as well as pre-health and health professions Registered Student Organizations (RSOs) to establish and strengthen collaborative initiatives that support student career development and workforce readiness. Collaborate with various student support services on-campus, such as counseling, tutoring, and academic advising services to enhance the overall support structure for pre-health students and ensure that they have access to a holistic range of services to address their career development needs. Serve as liaison to an assigned campus partner and on Career Center, Division of Student Affairs and university committees as needed. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree and four years’ experience related to academic and/or student services or a combination of post high school education and experience equal to eight years. Preferred Qualifications Ability to apply the principles and practices of strategic planning, development, and evaluation. Knowledge of career counseling tools and resources. Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Ability to compile printing materials and visual aids for training. Ability to develop and implement policies, procedures, goals, and objectives. Ability to effectively train and direct the work of others. Ability to maintain and improve personal and team effectiveness, and foster change and creativity. Helpful You are known as a problem solver and a go to person for sound advice.
