Orlando Health | Choose Well Position Summary The Orlando Health Mechanical Circulatory Support (MCS) Coordinator will be involved in the coordination and facilitation of a new MCS program with cross training in both Ventricular Assist Device (VAD) Therapy, Cardiogenic Shock, and Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) support. This position is responsible for facilitating the care and education of VAD, shock and ECMO patients and their families throughout the process to ensure continuity of care across the VAD/ECMO/Transplant continuum. Functions as a program and population-based expert clinician, responsible for independent and interdependent nursing practice. Coordinates and optimizes health care team interventions across the continuum, including inpatient and outpatient settings, and is actively involved in meeting discharge goals and long-term care outcomes. Assists educators in providing competencies for staff and community education. Participates in patient and caregiver education. Provides educational/outreach programs to health care providers, patient groups, community organizations, and others in the hospital’s service area. The MCS Coordinator serves in a rotating on call capacity for the team, to provide 24-hour coverage for both inpatients (staff) and outpatients. Within scope of job, requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgement, and the ability to work in an autonomous setting. Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and take appropriate action. Responsibilities:
Essential Functions Conducts triage assessment of cardiogenic shock patients being considered for escalation of care and advanced therapies. Conducts evaluation of patients who are being considered for MCS/heart transplant to assess their candidacy. Coordinates any additional testing and work-up needed prior to implant. This includes close collaboration with outside transplant teams. Performs assessments of patients with Ventricular Assist Devices to establish, implement, and evaluate individualized plan of care. Provides timely and appropriate clinical advice and interventions to patients which includes participation in outpatient VAD/Advanced Heart Failure clinic. Arranges all appropriate medical therapy and testing. Reviews and evaluates lab results and notifies physician of abnormalities as indicated. Document’s findings and interventions in the patient’s medical record. Reviews Mechanical Circulatory Support policies, procedures, and manuals. Ensures compliance with policies and procedures. Maintains Mechanical Circulatory Support program registry and statistics. Assists with outcomes tracking and national comparison reports. Collaborates on clinical trials and research projects. Monday through Friday day coverage with rotating call. Educates and assesses staff in the use of Mechanical Circulatory Support. Leads train-the-trainer initiatives and super-user formats to ensure provider competency. Coordinates community resources and works with patients and caregivers to ensure emergency backup support systems. Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards. Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures. Other Related Functions

Qualifications:
Education/Training Bachelor’s degree in Nursing Licensure/Certification Current Florida licensure as a Registered Nurse Basic Life Support (BLS) Acute Care Life Support (ACLS) Experience Minimum three (3) years of clinical experience to include either two (2) years in Cardiac ICU Setting or three (3) years in VAD StepDown Unit, VAD and/or ECMO experience
